An historic former icehouse beautifully set into the rugged Scottish landscape, with breathtaking sea views from the roof.

Sleeping up to six lucky guests (and two even luckier dogs), a stay at Glacial Shore feels extra-special from the moment you arrive.

You'll imagine that you've spirited yourselves far away from the everyday cares of life as you approach the windswept volcanic cliffs of St Cyrus, surrounded by blankets of flowers and abundant wildlife.

The house itself is a former ice storage house and skipper's quarters, built to blend expertly into the atmospheric landscape.  You'll have direct access to the long, sandy St Cyrus beach - part of the local Nature Reserve - while the rooftop showcases magnificent views of the sweeping dunes.

Once inside, you'll be captivated by the rustic charm of the curved ceilings, stone walls and wooden floors, and tempted by the cosy evening comfort of the wood burner. There's plenty of squishy seating for everyone, and you'll even find a suspended ‘egg' chair to swing from - an ideal spot to curl up with a good book.

You'll find a family bathroom and two double bedrooms on the ground floor, both equipped with patio doors for an impossibly scenic way to wake up. For an extra treat, there's an infra-red sauna to help you relax...ideal after all those hectic meal preparations, slaving over the Range cooker!

Head to the mezzanine level to access the kingsize room, complete with sofa bed for any extra guests. You'll discover a gorgeous writing desk on this level too, perfect for firing up that creative spirit, or simply recording all your holiday memories.

Meanwhile, with three-and-a-half acres of land all to yourselves, there's plenty of scope to explore (not to mention letting the kids and dogs work off all that energy!) Or of course, you could decide to head across the bridge towards those wondrous sand dunes, directly onto the beach. With a heated outdoor shower to return to, there's no need to worry about sandy toes and paws.

There are many more delights to experience in this wondrous part of Scotland. St Cyrus Nature Reserve is filled with birds, butterflies and waterfalls, while if you prefer blazing new trails, you'll have immediate access to a cliff-sheltered walking and cycling path.

If you're more of a golfer (well, you are in Scotland, after all!) the Royal Montrose Course Golf Club is a mere six miles away. Why not treat yourselves to a meal in the Clubhouse after all that hard work?

Wherever you spend your days, you'll look forward to returning to Glacial Shore as the sun begins to set. Light up the firepit, then gather together and toast marshmallows, as you swap holiday stories under an impossibly starry sky.

Things to note

Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome at a small extra charge. Dogs are not permitted on the beds. A single fold-out mattress can be arranged in advance for an extra guest if needed.
