Wy Y Ddraig Tree Tent is an off-grid Amazing Space complete with open-air living platforms, surrounded by the rural beauty of Wales.
  • Sleeps: 2
  • Bedroom: 1
  • Bathroom: External
  • Minimum stay: 1 night

The moment you set your eyes upon the bright red tree tent Wy Y Ddraig (“dragon egg” in native Welsh), you’ll see why it was chosen to be featured on George Clarke’s popular Amazing Spaces TV programme.

Wy Y Ddraig is no ordinary tree tent – something you’ll note immediately from its vibrant colour and unusual design. Off grid, yet surrounded by everything you’ll need for a comfy stay, your location on an 81-acre estate is perfectly positioned between the Brecon Beacons, Builth Wells and Llandrindod Wells. In other words, if long, fresh air-filled country walks are your thing, you’ve just found your heaven.

Set beside a gently babbling stream and amongst sweet-scented pine trees, Wy Y Ddraig is perfect for couples who want to relax and reconnect amongst the very best of nature. Access your tent via a long wooden path, where you’ll also find your very own enclosed open-air shower, a living and dining deck with outdoor cooking area, and a lower platform that’s ideal for sunrise yoga sessions. There’s also a private toilet a little further up.

If you were worried about feeling cold, don’t! The tent’s cosy insulation will keep you nice and toasty, and you’ll also find a crackling woodburner inside, together with a handy supply of logs (we did say this was no ordinary tree tent!) Meanwhile, the downy double bed ensures you’ll have a sound night’s sleep amongst the trees.

Equipped with a two-burner gas hob, a running water sink, a cool box and a whistling kettle, whipping up al fresco feasts here is ridiculously easy. A cafetiere takes care of your morning coffee, while supplied crockery and cutlery mean you can travel perfectly light.

If you’ve brought marshmallows along, determined to toast them by sunset, you won’t be disappointed! Simply head down to the stream, where you’ll find a welcoming fire pit that’s ideal for barbecuing, marshmallow toasting and campfire singing alike. With comfy seats cleverly hand-crafted from tree trunks, you may not want to move even after the sun has set. So watch the stars instead, and feel yourself getting deliciously lost in your surroundings.

After a morning coffee peppered with birdsong and rustling leaves, it’s time to explore those surroundings a little more closely! Your location is wonderfully remote, meaning you’ll need a car to stock up on supplies in nearby Newbridge-on-Wye.  From there, simply pack yourselves a picnic and head in any direction you fancy.  Whichever way you go, you can enjoy plenty of fresh scenery through unspoilt forests and valleys.
