Lovers of the good life will be in heaven at Château Mareuil, an authentic 15th century château in the stunning Hautes Vienne region of France, set high on a rock overlooking the natureful Asse valley. You may recognise the chateau from the TV series ‘Escape to the Chateau DIY’ which aired in February 2019.

A nearby private river is the perfect place to stroll or picnic during endless Mediterranean-style summers, while whispering fruit trees and sweet-scented flowers provide the perfect backdrop for al fresco drinks and conversation with your loved ones. Meanwhile, winter evenings transform the château into a warming sanctuary, complete with ambient lighting and a crackling woodburner.

Discover a studio apartment on site, and two elegant guest suites in the château itself, beautifully styled and fit for royalty, traditionally furnished to blend with the rustic surroundings. In addition, there is a further 3rd pretty French styled bedroom with its own cloakroom facilities.

The lavish Prince Suite sleeps up to three people, and features an artisan crafted contemporary shower room. Perfect for honeymooning couples or even a family, the Princess Suite features an opulent bathroom which you’ll want to spend hours in, this has been expertly hand-crafted to provide both comfort and luxury. Finally, Le Petit Prince is located on the ground floor, with its stylish double bedroom and an ensuite shower room, sleeping three.

Take a wander around the site to discover historic buildings, a sociable bar and games room in the former chapel, and there’s even an office if you can’t bear to tear yourself away from work while you’re away! Relax poolside and swim perfect lengths in the 12m x 6m swimming pool that simply begs to be enjoyed in the sunshine.

All that’s left to do is pour a glass of French wine and relax in your suite. If you’re feeling sociable, why not chat with friends in the sumptuous salon, complete with ancient font, or perhaps out on the terrace instead?

After a continental breakfast, explore the local area by taking a riverside stroll, or perhaps hop on a bike if you’re feeling more active! You’ll find plenty of picturesque towns and villages nearby if you’re in the mood for shopping, along with sparkling lakes ideal for swimming and watersports. There are even more stunning châteaux to discover, and for a special treat, a meal at nearby Michelin-starred Les Orangeries can’t be beaten.

What the guests of Chateau Mareuil say

“I have stayed here twice. The chateau is set in beautiful countryside. The building is majestic and has a fascinating history that the owners will bring to life for you with their stories. The facilities are beautifully presented in tune with the building yet modern and comfortable. The surrounding areas are stuffed full of interesting places to visit so there is a lot to do. However , if you want calm and relaxation, then it is in abundance should you so choose. The owners are welcoming and knowledgeable about the local area and with the addition of a pool this summer this idyllic location will be my number one spot to stay in whilst in France.”

“Place is lovely. Really relaxing stay. We’ve been twice, once as a couple, the other with a large group. The decor is really in keeping with the old atmosphere of the beautiful Chateau.
We did a quite lot locally. Some lovely lakes and rivers to swim in. Excellent restaurants and walks nearby. Main thing though is the peace and quiet – you can really get away from everything here, and spend hours reading, relaxing, sipping wine etc.”
G Glennie

“A wonderful place to stay for the whole family, plenty to see and to do in local towns. Wonderful scenery combined with great food and drink can only make for a fantastic holiday retreat. Great history surrounding the buildings on site. The chateau boasts an impressive “games room” with a pool table and fridge for all your favourite drinks! The hosts are impeccable and highly recommend the food cooked by Belinda.”
