Three cosily converted farm silos for romantic getaways and family breaks, privately nestled on ancient rural grounds in walking distance of the River Wye and Hay-on-Wye.
  • Sleeps: 5 or 2 per silo
  • Bedrooms: 3 or 1 per silo
  • Bathrooms: 2 or 1 per silo
  • Minimum stay: 1 night

Peacefully nestled on the outskirts of the sleepy Welsh village of Clyro, Cwmhir Court is achingly close to some of the area’s finest attractions: namely the shimmering River Wye, and the cultural haven that is Hay-on-Wye.

And when you’re visiting such a unique part of the world, doesn’t it make sense to stay in unique accommodation… such as a cosily converted farm silo, perhaps?

You’ll find three of these dog-friendly retreats at Cwmhir Court; each one boasting comfy beds and convenient holiday facilities for couples and families alike.

Sleeping up to five guests, Silver Silo is the one to opt for if you’ve brought the kids. Rich in contemporary style, the sparkling retreat joins two silos expertly together, with high ceilings, plenty of natural light, and sleek, clean-lined décor throughout.

There’s a wall-mounted TV and a small library of books to help keep you entertained on snuggly nights in, and an enclosed garden for evenings of barbecue suppers and stargazing.

Meanwhile, the well-equipped kitchen/diner is cleverly fitted into the silo’s curve, and there’s a wooden staircase that leads to one single and two scenic double bedrooms: one with a balcony that’s ideal for accompanying a relaxed afternoon tipple.

Ideal for a romantic couple, Grain Silo showcases soothing meadow views towards Hay Bluff, with a lovely garden and a charming entrance hall that doubles as a tranquil space to get lost in a good book.

More information

There’s an elegant double bedroom on the ground floor, while stairs lead up to a gorgeous circular lounge that covers the entire first floor space.

Wheat Silo is also perfect for a couple; a rustic haven with views across the Wye Valley, all the way out towards the Black Mountains.

Again, the stunning living space occupies the entire first floor, and there’s a cute breakfast bar with two stools for morning coffee… or simply head outside and enjoy it amidst a chorus of birdsong.

As guests, you’ll have access to Cwmhir Court’s beautiful grounds, which are strewn with well-waymarked footpaths. Slightly further afield, you can embark on the Offa’s Dyke footpath, or the popular Wye Valley Walk, with ease. Why not pack a tasty picnic and explore?

But before you return to your silo, Hay-on-Wye, with its weekly farmers’ market and endless parade of bustling independent shops, is a must-visit… particularly if you’ve timed your visit for the Hay Festival of Literature and Arts (or “the Woodstock of the mind” as Bill Clinton once described it!)

Things to note

One well-behaved dog is permitted to stay in each silo, at a small additional cost.
