Full description
A lovingly handcrafted and thatched retreat, blissfully off-grid and nestled amongst soothing woodland on the edge of the Somerset Levels.

A romantic stay at Courtfield Roundhouse promises to make you feel like characters in a magical fairy story.

Perfectly secluded in a woodland glade, on a friendly farm in the Somerset countryside, the off-grid, charm-filled dwelling was exquisitely crafted by Tom Dunbar, the farm's creative owner (and a master thatcher!)

Tom and Amanda have also seen to it that every holiday indulgence is catered for, from the breakfast hamper bursting with local goodies and fresh home-baked bread, to a plentiful supply of marshmallows to toast on the campfire.

The roundhouse itself features lime-washed clay walls and a solid wooden floor. The intricate thatch and roof timbers are a joy to gaze up at... with a beautiful fairy-lit ring beam that will make you feel cosy and cosseted in nature.

Discover a ridiculously cosy double bed inside too, furnished with plenty of extra blankets and hot water bottles (though thatch provides such toasty insulation that you may not need them!)

Whip up a sizzling sunset supper out on the campfire, or head for the magnificent woodland kitchen instead, also perfectly crafted by Tom, and gainfully equipped with a two-burner gas camping stove, a grill, a solar-powered fridge, and all the crockery and utensils you could want.

Here you'll also find a covered seating area to while away some time in, chatting and giggling away with your loved one... and there's a thoughtfully chosen supply of books and games on hand for when you're all talked out.

There's also a compost ‘tree bog' loo that's surrounded by fast-growing trees, and a gorgeous, solar-powered outdoor shower, furnished with plenty of hot water, lovely soap and fluffy towels... and woven hazel screens for privacy!

The temptation will be strong to just stay put in your dreamlike woodland corner, watching the birds and the butterflies, or opening a good book and getting lost between the pages.

But if you do feel like exploring, you could start with the surrounding acres of woodland and fields, or perhaps a fifteen-minute stroll to the local pub.

Further afield are longer walking routes, including the River Parrett Trail, which is ideal for testing those walking boots! You could also squeeze in a visit to a National Trust property, with Montacute House and Barrington Court close by.

But we're willing to bet that nothing will top that serene feeling of sitting outside your beautiful Roundhouse with a glass of local cider, the glowing campfire easing you into another perfect evening.
