A sumptuously stylish water mill conversion in the Scottish Borders, for a romantic break that's rich in design-led chic.

When everyday life gets too much, spirit your loved one away to the flourishing beauty of the Scottish Borders, and to Old Mill, a breathtaking conversion of an 18th century water mill.

Captivating and unique, Old Mill perfectly blends old and new, with all the contemporary comforts you might expect from a rural break, set against the building's rich and original heritage.

Entering through the stable door, straight into the double-height, open-plan living area, you will feel immediately welcome.  Characterful wooden beams and lofty ceilings are the charming backdrop for comfy furnishings, one-of-a-kind vintage accessories and soft-toned décor.

Head for the smart and sociable kitchen and fire up the Nespresso machine for your first holiday coffee. The oiled oak dining table makes for a truly irresistible spot to catch up on life and love over home-prepared feasts, and as it seats six, you can even entertain if you're in the mood!

The mezzanine bedroom is a sublime spot for sleeping and lazing alike, with plenty of soft colours and textures to make you feel irresistibly snug. Monkey side lamps add a touch of quirkiness, while a conveniently-placed rolltop bath means you can roll right out of the kingsize bed, into a tub full of indulgent bubbles.

Chat to your loved one as you soak, or simply relax as you gaze at the stars outside...while if a shower's more your thing, you'll find a cleverly-designed shower room in the eaves - ideal for freshening up after a long day out.

Chat your evenings away in the sitting room, complete with its gorgeous vintage Moroccan rug, designer lamps and hand-made shutters, while on sunny afternoons you can head out to the garden, where the mill lade gently trickles through.

Set in its own secluded corner within the five lush acres of Dod Mill's green grounds (which also include the owner's home and The Bothy), you'll have to fight the urge to take a refreshing stroll! If you can resist, simply pour a drink and keep an eye out for the occasional visiting otter.

Keen holiday explorers will enjoy taking the short trip into nearby Lauder, where there are coffee shops, a deli, shops, an art gallery and even a castle to lose yourselves in. Nearby Firebrick Brasserie is an award-winning eatery that's perfectly placed for those evenings when you don't feel like cooking, and there are also many pubs close by.

Of course, you'll have lots of opportunity to study the local wildlife as you take in all that outstanding scenery. The area is famed for its picture-perfect beauty, with sweeping moorlands, a bracing coastline and loch-peppered forests all around. Winding country roads are perfect for cyclists and interesting drives around the area.

Oh - and keen golfers can take their pick of courses here, with over 40 to choose from in the surrounding area!

However you choose to spend your time, everlasting memories are sure to be made from your romantic escape to Old Mill.
