Amsterdam The Crane by YAYS can be found on KNSM Island in the eastern point of this most famous Dutch city – a district still undiscovered by most tourists, but a newly emerging creative hub in high demand with locals.

Back in the 1950s, KNSM Island and the surrounding islands were a hotbed of activity – unloading ships from across the world, helping to rebuild the country and re-establishing The Netherlands’ trading position. Today, the skyline of cranes is a distant memory, the docklands having been transformed to a residential area in 1975 – but the Crane Apartment, saved from the demolition, now serves as an iconic reminder of this important part of Amsterdam’s history.

Built in 1957, Figee Crane 2868 has been beautifully renovated and restored by Yays to provide stylish managed accommodation across three storeys for four lucky guests. Perfect for a special celebration, or simply an ideal (and wonderfully unique) cultural retreat off the beaten track, the crane comes complete with everything you could possibly need for an indulgent and relaxing stay, including concierge service and housekeeping.

Once you’ve climbed the steel stairs to the main deck, you’ll enter into a super hip living space. With interior design by renowned Dutch designer Edward van Vliet, you’ll notice how exquisitely the apartment been styled to include a generous nod towards the crane’s industrial past. Bright, modern interiors, oodles of natural sunlight and bang-on-trend minimalist furniture work together to create light and space in every room.

The fully equipped kitchen area comes complete with marble worktops, plenty of storage and all you need to cook up a storm. Enjoy your meals at the marble-topped dining table for four, perfectly positioned beside a window to provide riverside views as you dine.

Leading through from the kitchen and dining area, you’ll find yourself in the cosy living area, where you can relax back with a local beer or two, watch some TV, check in with the world courtesy of the complimentary Wi-Fi, or simply curl up on the sofa to enjoy the far-reaching views on each side.

At the top of the bespoke staircase, you’ll come to the large, modern bathroom (complete with a shower and a luxurious, stand-alone bathtub for ultimate indulgence!). The bedroom is found in the floor above, and comes with the added bonus of the most spectacular panoramic view of the IJ river from your bed! The bedroom also features a television, storage space and fresh white linen for a peaceful night’s sleep.

What the guests of Amsterdam The Crane by YAYS say

“The Crane was such a beautiful stay! It’s definitely unique in every way and it still has a feel of class and elegance! Thanks to Henk who built the place and left a cute story of his time working on the Crane. Great location for links etc! The only problem is that we should have stayed longer! Thanks YAYS team.”

“Living in a luxury crane is definitely a one-time experience!
I don’t usually rate hotels, but living in a luxury crane is definitely a onetime experience. The facilities are great, the location is wonderful and the scenery is fantastic… You won’t regret owning the entire 3-floor crane all by yourself for a little holiday. You could eat and sleep while enjoying a terrific sea-view (up in the air) of East Amsterdam.”
