The Hideaway at Baxby Manor

Chill out, unwind and savour sensational glamping and camping at The Hideaway - a wonderfully relaxed, totally friendly and perfectly placed eco-friendly campsite in the heart of North Yorkshire.
  • Sleeps: 2 or 4 per unit
  • Bedroom: Studio
  • Bathroom: Communal
  • Minimum stay: 2 nights

The Hideaway lets you enjoy all the gems camping has to offer – from waking to the sound of birdsong to spending evenings around your own proper campfire (a rarity nowadays!). With quirky Ecopods, magical Hoggit houses and enough space for up to 40 pitches, here you can soak up chilled out vibes surrounded by incredible countryside, vast open skies and some of Britain’s best wildlife. All the while, relax safe in the knowledge that your holiday isn’t costing the earth. In fact, every step has been taken for minimal environmental impact, helping preserve this beautiful spot for years to come.

First up, The Hideaway’s three Ecopods provide a wonderfully unique way to experience the essence of camping – without leaving too many luxuries behind! For a romantic retreat with a twist, try a double Ecopod, where you and your loved one can curl up together on a proper bed (with a super comfy mattress!), warm inside your eco-friendly wooden cabin. Or, if you’re traveling with little ones, there’s the family Ecopod, complete with a double bed and two small singles – perfect for two happy little campers!

You’ll find a private fire pit for cooking (although you’re welcome to bring a camping stove for boiling that kettle in a hurry!). You can also enjoy the chance to go back to basics without electricity. Instead, relax beside tea-lit lanterns as you swap campfire stories, gaze at the stars, or simply soak up the peaceful surroundings… How romantic!  Maybe time to book into one of the wellness packages on offer too – drop the pace even further?

Or maybe you fancy recreating your own fantasy adventure? Well the recent Hoggit House additions at The Hideaway might be just the ticket!

This accommodation here offers something a little more luxurious, with double bed plus two extra single beds and a bunk over the double bed.

The unique turfed roof and wood-clad exteriors are complemented by unique upcycled outdoor furniture and you will also have your very own wood-burning stove inside and fire pit outside.

If you’re more of a traditionalist when it comes to camping, bring your own tent and pitch up in The Hideaway’s peaceful six-acre field, where you’ll be surrounded by trees and the sound of the stream running past. Toast marshmallows around your open campfire, and keep a keen eye for the incredible wildlife that live nearby – including otters and kingfishers! And to truly get in touch with nature, opt for one of the five pitches in The Sanctuary – an untouched, adults-only part of the site, designed to encourage wildlife and ground-nesting birds within metres of your tent.

What the guests of The Hideaway at Baxby Manor say

“We’ve stayed here twice (once in a tent and once in an Eco-Pod) and cannot rate this place highly enough. All of the staff are friendly and helpful. The washing and hygiene facilities are excellent. Love the addition of a vintage caravan for breakfast pastries etc – the mocha was delicious and very welcome! There isn’t a play area for the kids but that is kind of what makes it more peaceful and our kids didn’t need one because we enjoyed a lovely countryside walk and then dinner by the campfire. Can’t wait to go again!”

“The children & I had a great 3 night stay at the hideaway. The site has clearly been well planned and managed. The wash facilities were the best I’ve seen at campsites and their eco philosophy is to be greatly admired. The surrounding area is beaituful & we enjoyed our visit to York which was only a 30 minute drive away. Would definitely recommend.”

“We came as a family of 4 with 2 young children. My husband was worried about the lack of children’s facilities but he needn’t have worried as it was perfect! Kids don’t need any more than some open space and they can have a whale of a time! The toilets and showers were lovely and clean and beautifully modern – the best I’ve come across while camping. Actual hot showers was a treat! The shop is well equipped and we felt prices were very reasonable. The pitch itself was spacious and we loved that although the campsite was fully booked it was anything but cramped! The strict noise rules are mostly respected and if not, a quick text to Barney (the Chief!) and he’ll soon deal with it. The washing facilities are great – washing up liquid and scourers are provided, and there is a fridge and freezers if you want to store perishables. Lots of phone charging points if you can’t do without! And a really handy drying room should you need it. We didn’t use it, but the vintage catering caravan was really pretty and a lovely touch too. It fit into the surroundings beautifully. My boys loved the little touches such as the ‘shhhh! Troll sleeping’ sign at the bridge, making sure we were silent as we passed. This is my favourite campsite yet, and we’ll definitely be back!”
