El Coyol Private Island
Nicaragua / Lake Nicaragua, Granada
Enjoy some of the most spectacular views you'll ever see from El Coyol, a private island exquisitely positioned on the freshwater Lake Nicaragua.
Featured in the Evening Standard as one of the world's most breathtaking private islands, El Coyol offers blissful seclusion, sumptuous serenity, and first-class service from a small team of dedicated staff. An idyllic wonderland surrounded by exotic, butterfly-studded flora and fauna, you'll forget all about your stressful life back home from the moment you step ashore.
The boutique island villa sleeps up to eight adults in supreme comfort. Elegant, tastefully decorated and with accessories handmade by local craftspeople, in the main house you'll find a sociable and spacious living room that's ideal for catch-up cocktails, along with a large, well-equipped kitchen. If you're celebrating something special, why not hire a private chef to whip up a delicious feast?
In such an extraordinary part of the world, it probably goes without saying that al-fresco dining is mandatory. Choose your favourite spot from two generous terraces, and the welcoming pool pavilion, all equipped with beautiful views of the jungle garden and the star-studded night sky. The pavilion also boasts a hanging bed and a fitted barbecue area...we predict you'll enjoy some serious downtime here. Yogis can also enjoy some blissful practice on the dedicated yoga deck.
Later on, retreat to one of four indulgent ensuite bedrooms, two main house-located kingsize rooms, and another double and twin located in the pool pavilion.
As you explore your island, you'll notice plenty of enchanting viewpoints scattered around...why not stop for a while and watch boats glide past on the river, or observe playful monkeys on the nearby islands? Of course, you could always take a lazy afternoon dip in the stunning 12-metre infinity pool instead.
There are double and single kayaks available for exploring the waterways and surrounding islands, and if you feel like travelling slightly further afield, the city of Granada - a UNESCO World Heritage site - is a mere ten-minute boat trip away.
A wonderful starting point for a whole wealth of activity, from Granada you can zipline along the slopes of Mombacho (a volcano that last erupted in 1570), take a cloud forest walk at the summit, and view lava flows by night. There are many restaurants, boutiques and bustling markets to explore, too.
Naturally, if all this feels like too much effort for an opulent private island break, you've always got the option to relax on the hanging bed with a good book and an even better glass of wine, as you survey the majestic volcano peaks on the gleaming horizon. The choice is luxuriously yours.
