Set within 30 acres of stunning grounds, you’ll find yurts, traveller caravans, a caravan posing as a cottage, and even a fire truck at this spectacular South Shropshire location. The only tricky part is deciding which to choose!

The Yurts
Walcot Hall’s four Mongolian yurts – the Buffalo Springfield Yurt, the Crazy Horse Yurt, After The Gold Rush Yurt and Heart of Gold Yurt – make a real change from the ordinary. Finished with simple yet stunning furniture, wood burners and gas stoves, and animal skins for an authentic nod to nomadic roots, they certainly put the ‘glam’ in glamping. What’s more, with large private decks with a BBQ and outdoor seating on each, you can make the most of Walcot Hall’s gorgeous surroundings during your stay.

As well as a shared campfire, table tennis and badminton set, all yurts have use of the Cooking Area, where you’ll find crockery, cutlery, utensils, and the all-important tea, coffee and sugar. A nearby wooden shower block features two hot showers, while the adjacent hen house has been converted to incorporate a flushing toilet – nesting boxes intact!

Buffalo Springfield Yurt, Crazy Horse Yurt and Heart of Gold Yurt are found near a magnificent oak tree on the outskirts of the Arboretum. Each sleeps two people, making them the perfect romantic retreat.  The After The Gold Rush Yurt is set slightly away, beside its very own pool. Sleeping up to four, thanks to the additional double sofa bed, it’s perfect for small families – and has its own rowing boat for lazy afternoons on the water.

The Hidden Treasures
It’s easy to see why the seven Hidden Treasures are so-called.  Tucked away in the Arboretum, each one is a real jewel to behold! Every Hidden Treasure also enjoys its own outdoor seating to really soak up this gorgeous setting. Given the nature of these incredible spaces, they don’t have running water or electricity, but this really gives you an opportunity to unplug and relax. Water can be collected as and when you need it, while nearby, you’ll find a long-drop toilet and a shower in a purpose built wooden hut.

First up are the three traveller caravans – the Gypsy Caravan, the Green Glory, and the Red Showman’s Caravan. Each one is completely original and retired from a former life of trundling along country roads, but is now enjoying a new life welcoming lucky guests.

More information

The *Gypsy Caravan is a cheery vision in red and gold, offering a cosy hideaway for two adults and a child between a double bed and a small cabin bed. With the addition of a two-ring gas hob and electric fire, you’ll be beautifully warm in this light and airy Romany gem.

On a slightly larger scale, the showman’s caravans each have their own double bedroom, living room with wood burner, and a separate kitchen with a two-ring gas stove and table and chairs for two. With gorgeous original features in each, including art deco fixtures in the Green Glory and beautiful hand-painted cabinets in the Red Showman’s Caravan, each offers a totally unique couple’s retreat.

Next up, the Shepherd’s Hut is a cosy bolthole for a couple or small family.  With a gorgeous green exterior and a calming blue-and-white interior, this former roadman’s wagon offers peace, quiet and repose. The double bed is perfect for parents, while small children will adore sleeping on the two bunks above. The Shepherd’s Hut features a wood-burner and two-ring gas stove, as well as an outdoor awning for alfresco dining on fine days.

Ram-Baa Shepherd’s Hut is Walcot Hall’s newest addition, a simple but lovely hut with a double bed and seating areas inside and out, situated in a central location in the Arboretum, close to facilities.

Finally, there’s the Fire Truck – perhaps the most unusual of them all! A canvas wagon on the back of a red truck, here you can cuddle up on the double bed for an unforgettable glamping experience. Finished with eclectic fabrics and furniture, roll up the entrance door to enjoy the surrounding woodland or gaze at the stars at night.

It would be tempting to spend every moment in your gorgeous accommodation, but there’s so much more to discover here.  Visitors come from all over to explore Walcot Hall’s spectacular gardens and Arboretum (including the enormous Great Douglas Fir), so be sure to do so yourself. Then of course there are the beautiful water pools, surrounded by woodland, where you’re invited to bring a fishing rod and try your luck.

With the Shropshire Hills at your feet, there’s a wide range of scenic walks beyond Walcot Hall for all abilities, from a ramble to the Bronze Age hillfort at Bury Ditches to a hike along Offa’s Dyke on the Welsh border. Brush up your horse-riding skills at the onsite stables or take in the Shropshire scenery on a hack. Or if that all sounds a bit much, simply unwind with a pint at the Powis Arms – Walcot Hall’s very own pub.

Incredible glamping, spectacular surroundings and an onsite pub – it sounds too good to be true! The good news is, a stay at Walcot Hall is even better than it sounds. Be prepared, though; with so much on offer in this beautiful place, one visit may not be enough…
