Forbes of Kingennie Shepherd’s Huts

Unwind with a traditional Scottish staycation, from the romantic comfort of a hand-crafted, nature-cocooned retreat.
  • Sleeps: 2 per hut
  • Bedrooms: 1 per hut
  • Bathrooms: 1 per hut
  • Minimum stay: 1 night

Boasting its very own nine-hole golf course, and four sparkling, nationally renowned trout fishing pools, Forbes of Kingennie Country Resort provides the perfect experience of traditional Scotland.

Surrounded by nature, you’ll find the much-loved family and dog-friendly resort peacefully positioned along the serene Scottish coastline. Yet the lively city of Dundee is mere minutes away, with both Glasgow and Edinburgh in easy reach.

Ideal for a romantic couple’s escape, you and your loved one can bed beautifully down in one of the resort’s two luxurious, hand-crafted shepherd’s huts, known as The Stargazer, and Coorie Doon (delightful Scots vernacular that means “snuggle down”).

Each carefully crafted hut is a generous 22ft long, so you’ll have plenty of cosily furnished space to stretch out and relax in.

You’ll find each imbued with its very own style and character, too – The Stargazer features a gorgeous stargazing window above the bed, along with a stargazing kit and ‘outer space’-themed accessories, to help you make the most of those celestial views!

Meanwhile, Coorie Doon comes equipped with a sumptuous outdoor hot tub, with waterside sunset views that go very well with a glass or two of bubbles.

Whichever retreat you choose, you’ll have the benefit of toasty underfloor heating, a snuggly Chesterfield sofa, and a private en-suite bathroom that comes equipped with an indulgent Edwardian shower head, and a heated towel rail.

More information

There’s also a fully fitted kitchen, stocked with an oak worktop, an induction hob, and everything else you’ll need to whip up effortless romantic suppers.

(Though if you don’t feel like cooking, you could always take a stroll over to The Scullery Restaurant, with its tempting dishes crafted from local and home-grown produce, or the friendly Cairn O’Mount Bar, instead!)

On balmy summer evenings, why not reconnect with the one you love in the gentle al fresco breeze? Your lush AstroTurf lawn, lined with railway sleepers, makes an ideal setting for laughter-fuelled conversation.

Later on, simply light the gas firepit and toast a few marshmallows, as you wait for the stars to make their appearance in the clear night sky (that is, if you’re not already enjoying the scene from The Stargazer’s window!)

We scarcely need mention all the resort activities you can indulge in by day. Though it might help to explain that the designer nine-hole golf course is suitable for beginners and experienced golfers alike, and the trout fishing pools were created by Mike Forbes, the former Scottish National Fly-Fishing Champion himself.

All that’s left to do is pour yourselves a wee dram, and get ready to lose yourselves in the traditional charms of Scotland.

Things to note

The resort is family and dog friendly, and regularly hosts weddings and large events.
