An immersive ‘back to nature’ escape, no attention to detail has been spared at Wildwood Spa, which has been featured on Channel 4’s series on Extraordinary Escapes in the UK.

First, the modern Zen-like retreat is secluded amongst 12 peaceful acres of private woodland, with the sweeping North Devon coast practically on the doorstep. Expertly built into a valley side, you can savour calming views of the natural pond and stream.

Second, the two eco-friendly cuboid living spaces have been lovingly crafted from natural materials, with living roofs, and striking timber cladding created using Shou-Sugi-Ban, otherwise known as the ancient Japanese method of fire.

Third, the pared-down Nordic-inspired interiors are designed to help you breathe out and relax from the moment you arrive. Expect huge scenery-showcasing windows and polished, heated concrete floors, not to mention a ready supply of lush plants and foliage… oh, and a soft-glowing fire to snuggle around by evening.

Of course, you can expect plenty of those essential creature comforts, too. These range from Nespresso coffee and fluffy robes, to a freestanding stone bath and a sumptuous cedar-and-glass sauna.

Meanwhile, outside awaits an invigorating woodland waterfall shower (you can shower indoors if you prefer), and an extensive deck with a log fire and cosy sheltered seating, sun loungers, and an al fresco dining table.

Here you’ll also find a cast-iron gas barbecue for sizzling sunset suppers, and a heated infinity pool with hydrotherapy loungers (heated to a constant 36 degrees making it the perfect pool to dip in year-round!), perfectly set between the two living spaces, for sublime afternoon relaxation.

More information

When you’re ready, curl up in the Egyptian cotton-dressed kingsize bed, and drift into a sound, silent night’s sleep – that is, unless you’ve chosen to watch a film or favourite TV show on the projector first.

After morning coffee on the deck, you can choose to stretch out and do nothing at all (though Wi-Fi is provided, should you feel the need to check in with the outside world at any point).

But if you do decide to explore, there’s an abundance of magical country walks to embark upon, with a beach and a friendly pub in strolling distance. Ilfracombe and Woolacombe – one of Europe’s finest beaches, and an absolute must if you’re a surfer – are both accessible in a short car journey.

There’s also plenty of activity to get stuck into close by. From clay pigeon shooting and golf, to quad biking and deep sea fishing, the possibilities are numerous.

Though however you decide to spend your day, we recommend returning to Wildwood Spa just in time to greet that mesmerising Devon sunset from your favourite spot.

What the guests of Wildwood Spa say

“We had the most amazing stay at the Wildwood Spa this January, from beginning to end our stay was fantastic. There has been so much thought and effort in creating such a magically place, we honestly feel lucky to have stayed. Kieran was super helpful throughout our stay and we would recommend Ravendere to anyone!”

“It is the most incredible way to spend a few days and such a unique experience. Although the photography on the website shows what a beautiful place it is, there isn’t any way to capture the feeling of both being part of such an incredible natural landscape with being cocooned in luxury. We took a sunrise walk down to Lee Bay and spent the evening up at the fire pit lookout….but apart from that we didn’t want to leave Wildwood Spa for very long. Wonderful weekend in very special surroundings. Thank you Helen and Kieran for creating such a beautiful retreat.”
