Full description
Lovingly bespoke, architect designed havens, dog friendly and gently nestled on the edge of a vast freshwater loch that overlooks the Scottish Highlands.

Venachar Cabins couldn't be more ideally placed for an escape into nature.

Set on a private estate, surrounded by dark skies and ancient woodland on the edge of the vast, shimmering Loch Venachar, you'll feel as though you've been magically spirited far from hectic everyday life.

The cabins' peaceful surroundings are so steeped in wildlife, there's a fair chance that if you're quiet, you'll catch sight of the resident otters and beavers going about their daily business, or the occasional red squirrel darting through the trees.

Yet with Edinburgh and Glasgow both accessible within an hour, and the bustling town of Callander close by, you'll be able to dip your toes into civilisation as little or as often as you like.

We've got a sneaking suspicion, however, that once you've settled into your bespoke, blissfully tranquil cabin, you won't want to move a muscle!

The three self-contained retreats were lovingly created by friendly owners Hugh and Jemima themselves, in close collaboration with a renowned local architect, and under guidance from the Trossachs National Park. Each sleeps up to four guests, and well-behaved dogs are welcome.

Birch is a two-tiered, larch clad haven with showstopping loch-and-mountain views from floor-to-ceiling windows, and a sumptuous lounge with a woodburning stove. Meanwhile, stargazing is taken to a whole new level when paired with a dip in the optional woodfired hot tub.

If you'd rather forgo the stairs, Rowan is a single-level retreat that features an enormous scenery-showcasing window, along with a downy superking bed, and a cosy lounge with a double sofa bed to curl up in.

Secluded at the far end of the site, Alder is the perfect choice if you're in the mood for a little extra privacy. Its two-tier structure is identical to Birch, yet with its pristine white interior, your surroundings will feel bright and cheerful even in winter.

Whichever cabin you choose, you'll have plenty of al fresco space to watch spectacular sunsets from, complete with a table and benches that have been hand-carved from estate wood, and a fire bowl for cooking and marshmallow toasting.

What else to do? Well, you can explore the loch via canoe with a local instructor, while away some idle time fishing, or hire a bike and whizz along the famed National Cycle Route 7, which can be accessed almost directly from your cabin itself, and if you're feeling energetic, will lead you all the way to Inverness!

The gateway to the Highlands, and an entry point to Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, Callander is also teeming with independent shops and restaurants... meaning it's unlikely you'll have the opportunity to be bored during your time at Venachar Cabins, however you decide to spend it.
