Trullo Susanna
Italy / Apulia
Full description
Sample a delicious taste of rural Italy, in an iconic coned-roof cottage set just a stone's throw from the ‘City of Festivals'.
Blissfully secluded, yet located just three kilometres from the vibrant festival town of Martina Franca, Trullo Susanna is the perfect location for precious family time, a romantic holiday or enjoying time with friends.
Originally an 18th century farmhouse (‘trulli' are circular stone buildings unique to rural Italy, with iconic conical roofs), beautifully restored Trullo Susanna comes complete with plenty of traditional features, including exposed stonework and gentle arches, to offer a comfortable and luxurious stay for groups of up to four people.
Secluded amongst stunning gardens full of vegetables, foliage and the sweet-scented fruit and olive trees that define this beautiful part of Italy, you'll feel immediately welcomed with a breathtaking introduction to life lived al fresco!
The inviting heated outdoor pool is dotted with lazy double sunbeds, while a tiled stone gazebo is the perfect setting to grab some midday shade (perhaps accompanied by a cocktail and a good book). Evening barbecues are surely a must, as you catch up with your loved ones over a sizzling supper under the emerging stars.
The well-preserved trullo interiors are a delight to stroll around and relax in, with an open plan living and dining area that features a crackling open fire and plenty of places to sit and admire the traditional décor. A fully equipped stone kitchen makes feast preparation easy and scenic, while a coffee machine and a dishwasher add welcome contemporary touches.
When it's time to turn in, head for the cosy double bedroom found in the original trullo cone, complete with soft bedding and romantic candles. Further along, you'll find a generous twin bedroom designed by a local artist, while the living area features a downy sofa bed for extra guests.
When you're not swimming or feasting, indulge to your heart's content in the games and music thoughtfully provided by the trullo's friendly owner, while you'll find a helpful information pack about the local area should you wish to explore a little further.
And why wouldn't you? After all, Puglia is well-known for its cuisine, and there is plenty of that to sample nearby, along with a vast selection of additional sensory treats. Think miles of unspoilt coastline complete with sandy beaches, numerous pretty towns and villages, historical sites (the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Alberobello is close by) and of course, plenty of places to simply grab some fresh coffee and watch this spectacular part of the world go idly by.
The nearby town of Martina Franca is particularly lively in summer, with its renowned festivals, unique party atmosphere, fresh produce and colourful street entertainment much loved by locals...what better excuse is there to celebrate life?
After a long day out, return to Trullo Susanna for a welcome dip in the pool, a glass of local wine and yet another excited chat about the holiday's events as the sun sets over the magnificent rural landscape. Paradise truly awaits!
