Torsa House and Island
Your own private island on Scotland's spectacular and ruggedly beautiful West Coast.
Ever fancied staying on your own private island? Well we have good news - you can! Torsa House offers a rare opportunity to stay in the only property on Torsa Island, with nothing but the local wildlife for company. A motorboat is even provided so you can explore the neighbouring bays and islands, and reach the mainland when you need to!
Torsa Island lies close to Oban on Scotland's West Coast and is a beautiful, rugged place. You'll reach the island by way of a short ferry crossing, and step onto your own mile-long sanctuary. Sheltered from the weather by the mainland, Torsa is a wonderful place to be for those who long to explore the natural world on their own terms. Kids and adults alike will relish the freedom of so much open space in which to walk, run, cycle or just be.
Torsa House is spacious and comfortable. On the first floor, you'll find three bedrooms sleeping up to six people, in a double, a twin and a bunk room. Downstairs, you'll find a well-equipped kitchen/diner, with east facing windows to catch the morning sun for your breakfast. The sitting room has plenty of comfy seating, and a woodburner with logs supplied. After a day out in the wild, this is the perfect place to come home to. There are books and games for you to relax with after dinner. The shower room, complete with power shower, is also on the ground floor.
Every window in Torsa House offers incredible views, but the best are those from the south-facing conservatory. Relax on the sofas and enjoy the sun as you look out over Loch Melfort and the Isle of Shuna. Open up the double doors, and step out into the garden: the perfect space to relax in on a summer afternoon.
The island itself is made up of hills, bays and meadows, all of them packed with wildlife. You may see the island's resident otters and seals on the shoreline, and perhaps the whales, dolphins and porpoises that sometimes pass close by. Look up to the sky, and you'll often catch a bird of prey, including occasional visits from sea and golden eagles. A small herd of deer live on the island, sheltering in its conifer trees.
Torsa comes with its own motorboat, with lifejackets and tuition for novices. Use this to explore the other remote islands around Torsa, or take it on a fishing trip. If you have your own boat (whether that is a sailing boat or a canoe) you are welcome to bring it - there is space for you to anchor. It's also possible to take guided kayaking, wildlife and fishing trips, and to hire bikes.
If you'd like a change of scene, or need to pick up some provisions, head either to Oban or to nearby Seil Island. On Seil, you'll find a choice of restaurants, a pub and a general store. Torsa is part of the Armaddy Castle Estate, a short distance away on the mainland. As a guest, you are welcome to use the castle's facilities, which include a games room, tennis court, fishing loch and gardens.
Torsa is the place to live out your island dwelling fantasies, surrounded by wildlife and beautiful views, as far away from it all as you could possibly be.
