Tornby Cabin
Denmark / Hirtshals, Nordjylland
Full description
An idyllic grass-roofed, glass-fronted cottage packed with cosy charm (and an al fresco Nordic bath!) soothingly nestled in a Danish coastal town with mesmeric North Sea views.
From the moment you arrive at Tornby Cabin, you'll understand why the concept of "hygge" (that wonderful word describing an irresistible sense of cosiness and warmth) is so engrained in the Danish soul.
Perfectly nestled in the coastal town of Tornby, just 200 metres across the wild sand dunes lies a long, unspoilt stretch of beach, which leads out to the vast, untameable North Sea.
The atmosphere is serene, soothing, and feels blissfully remote... the cabin is situated at the end of a cul-de-sac so there is no traffic, and the only sounds you're likely to hear will be from the local wildlife, and perhaps the occasional beachgoer!
Even if you don't feel like going out, you can still enjoy all the delightful sensory trappings of being so close to the sea. Simply whip up a delicious mug of hot chocolate, and watch the comings and goings of the waves right from your glass-fronted cottage.
Sleeping up to six guests, the pet-friendly retreat is full of simple charm and comfort, with plenty of retro Scandi style that includes soft-lit pendant lanterns, snuggly fur throws, and a gorgeous wood stove to huddle round by evening.
You'll find the kitchen area equipped with everything you'll need, and while there's plenty of space for you to dine inside, you may prefer welcoming in that amazing sunset with an al fresco supper on the decking, instead.
While you're outside, how about a bubble-accompanied, stargazing dip in the wood-fired Nordic bath, which is available at a small extra cost?
When it's finally time to head back inside, there are three sleeping spots to choose from; two downy kingsize bedrooms, and loft space for a further two guests... with spectacular sea views to greet you when you wake up.
As there's a comfy hammock conveniently placed outside, it might be tempting to brew some fresh coffee, then spend all day there, buried between the pages of a good book.
But if you feel like exploring the local area, you can simply wander along the beach and into the town, where you'll find plenty of independent and creative places to shop, or while away some time chatting over coffee and Danish pastries.
And of course, we hardly need to mention that this is the perfect location for wildlife-spotting... so why not set out on one of the many hiking and biking trails you'll discover nearby? If you're lucky, you may even spot local deer grazing in the wild dunes!
However you decide to idle away your day, we're sure you'll agree that the very best part will involve returning to Tornby Cabin as the daylight begins to fade, your weary souls blissfully soothed and refreshed.
Things to note
Check in after 3pm, check out by 10am. Well-behaved pets are permitted. As with most Danish holiday lettings, there are extra charges for heating and fuel, though you are welcome to bring your own firewood.
