A lovingly homely and history-steeped conversion, complete with outstanding views of rural North Yorkshire.

Ideal for four people in need of some much-needed peace, calm and soul-soothing rural views, Tholthorpe Control Tower stands proudly in the refreshing heart of North Yorkshire.

Once a Bomber Command base used by Canadian squadrons during World War Two, the tower was originally built in 1943.  These days, you'll discover a stylish and comfortable apartment surrounded by arable fields, set well away from the bustle of tourists and roads.

Friendly hosts Rosy and Paul converted the building themselves, filling it with homely, mid-century design touches and colourful décor, whilst ensuring their guests are able to really make the most of those amazing, 360-degree rural views.

History-lovers will also note the commemorative plaque outside the building, donated by members of the squadrons that were once based there. There is also a small space dedicated to the history of the building and the airfield.

Inside, the main part of the apartment spans the first floor. It features a light filled, wonderfully roomy open-plan kitchen, living and dining space. There is also one double bedroom and large bathroom on this floor, with the second double bedroom with en-suite bathroom on the ground floor.

In fact, this space was the original Control Room, and it features spectacular views over the Wolds and even out to the Dales on a clear day - what a way to greet each morning! The wood-burning stove will keep everybody warm on cooler evenings, while an eclectic record collection provides the perfect background mood.

A welcome pack is thoughtfully provided too, so you won't be without those holiday essentials of tea, fresh coffee, milk and biscuits. The kitchen itself is extremely well-equipped, with a two-oven Aga, an American-style fridge-freezer and that all-important dishwasher.

On sunny days, take the exterior staircase to the roof, which is home to a spectacular ‘lookout lounge' (tip: you'll want to bring the camera). There's also a generous balcony that spans the building in the most scenic way imaginable, so why not grab a chair and enjoy an al-fresco viewing session? There's plenty of wildlife to spot, or simply relax and enjoy the sun sinking over the horizon.

If you feel like getting out and about, Rosy and Paul are happy to loan you some bikes (ask Paul for the best routes!) Tholthorpe Village is a mere ten-minute stroll away, with its charming village green, duck pond and popular pub.

Further afield, York, Harrogate and the windswept East Coast are all within easy reach by car. The North York Moors are also temptingly accessible  begin your exploration from the White Horse at Kilburn, a famous landmark you'll be able to view from the Tower itself.

Return from your hectic day out to your soothing sanctuary - perhaps relaxing over a well-deserved drink in the garden before whipping up a mouthwatering meal. The choice is blissfully yours.
