The Turbine Barn
Deliciously secluded and perfectly nestled right by the fresh, crystal-clear waters of the fast-flowing River Test, The Turbine Barn - a former water-powered sawmill - is the ideal holiday setting for water babies and nature lovers alike.
This beautifully converted, single-level thatched cottage sleeps up to six people, and is pet-friendly too, so there's no need for the dog to miss out on any of the holiday fun!
Originally built in the 1920s, you'll find The Turbine Barn has retained its immense charm and beauty, with some remnants of its former life still in tact.
Cosily furnished and warmly decorated in neutral colours that blend with the natureful environment, you'll be able to look out over the rushing river as you wake up in the morning and sit down to a freshly-prepared breakfast.
On sunnier days, why not take your coffee - or well-deserved glass of wine - out onto the furnished, gravelled and fenced terrace, and enjoy the sights and sounds of the river up-close? On the opposite bank, you'll be able to spot the old and much-loved character fishing lodge, used by local fishermen during the day.
Curl up on the squashy sofa with a good book, or catch up with your favourite shows on the Freeview TV before rustling up a feast in the well-equipped and sociable open plan kitchen/dining area.
When it's time to turn in, pad along the hallway and discover three cheerful and beautifully furnished bedrooms, ideal for lazy lie-ins! The master room features a cosy king-sized bed, the second a double and the third comfy twin beds. You'll also find a deluxe shower room - the perfect spot to freshen up after a long day rambling through the countryside.
You'll certainly be spoilt for choice with picturesque scenery to ramble through. Hampshire is, after all, prime "period drama" country, rich in unspoilt landscapes that stretch for miles, along with plenty of charming towns and cities to explore. Even if you don't want to venture too far afield, the local pub - well within walking distance of the cottage and serving excellent meals - provides a great excuse to go for a stroll!
Aside from discovering the natural landscapes just outside your door, how about a visit to the Leckford Estate, just fifteen minutes away by car and owned by the John Lewis Partnership? Here you can visit fresh water gardens, enjoy a coffee and sample plenty of local delicacies. For those who love the odd tipple, the Bombay Sapphire gin distillery is more than worth a visit!
So if you're hankering after a more natural way to spend your holiday time, surround yourself with loved ones and head for the relaxing oasis that is The Turbine Barn - your cares will float away in no time at all.
