Full description

A lovingly restored off-grid retreat, secluded in the South Shropshire hills for a blissful re-introduction to the magical charms of nature.

If you're up for getting back to nature, but don't feel like struggling with tent poles in the rain, a stay aboard The Railway Carriage is a first-class choice!

Restored and refurbished with huge helpings of love and care, you'll discover the vibrant red carriage cheerfully secluded in the heart of the South Shropshire hills, amongst the woodland copse of Bedstone village.

Surrounded by wide open fields, with sweet-scented flowers and wild raspberries growing in the woodland, you're sure to feel instantly captivated by the charm and seclusion of your location, and the calming, home-style comfort of your off-grid carriage itself.

Equipped with a soothingly simple rustic interior, there's also plenty of enthralling attention to detail, including the original railway carriage lock, a traditional jug and basin for washing (please note there is no running water), and a soft-glowing wood-burning stove to keep you and your loved one perfectly toasty.

Oh, and not forgetting the irresistibly cosy, built-in kingsize bed to curl up in... we challenge you to resist the lure of the lazy lie-in, snuggled under downy bedding as rays of morning sunlight stream in through the windows.

Outside, there's a gorgeous barbecue firepit to cook on (you can also use the wood-burning stove if it's raining) and even a garden swing, to help you recapture the fun and playfulness of childhood!

What else could you possibly need? Well, there's a private, eco-friendly compost loo just a few steps away from your carriage.

Though you may feel completely relaxed and cosseted amongst nature, there's huge potential for fresh-air activity close by, which is perfect for releasing the outdoor adventurer in you!

Let's start with a good walk, shall we? The circular routes into the Welsh Marches pass by points of interest including castles and hill forts... we definitely recommend taking the camera.

If mountain biking is more your thing, you'll love the fact that you're positioned close to both Bucknell and Hopton Wood's exhilarating trails. Meanwhile, the nearby stables are pleased to offer trekking and pub rides for just about every ability!

After a day of immersing yourselves wholeheartedly in all the fun, heritage, and activity this glorious part of the world has to offer...

...what could be lovelier than returning to your very own slice of countryside, and firing up that barbecue as the golden sun sinks over the trees?

Things to note

Check in at 3pm, check out by 11am. Pets are sadly not permitted, due to the carriage being surrounded by livestock. Suitable for children over the age of 8. Please pack light and bring sturdy footwear, as the carriage is accessed by a trackway and grass path. A torch is recommended for night-time trips to the compost loo.  There is additional space outside for a tent, at a small additional fee.  No Wi-Fi but good 4G connection and signal.

Important Disclaimer: In the event of unforeseen circumstances such as bad weather and natural disasters the owners reserve the right to cancel your booking. They will of course be in touch with you regarding foreseen circumstances and hopefully book you in again on a date that suits you.

Tried and tested

"An absolutely magical place, totally secluded and beautiful. The carriage has been brilliantly converted and has so many stylish and lovely touches making your stay extra special. My wife particularly loved the swing. Overall we couldn't recommend it highly enough and have already booked another stay."

"Wow - what a find. This place was incredible and we enjoyed our stay more than I thought possible. The secluded quiet of the cabin was beautiful and waking up to a stunning sunrise and birdsong was so lovely. The wood burner kept us cosy and warm and we used the outside fire pit for a bonfire. The 30 min walk to Hopton Castle was well worth it and we ate dinner in a nearby pub which again was fantastic. 10/10 stay."
