Full description

Unique guest room in Hightown, with use of an unforgettable eco-build garden rooms - the award-winning Owl House.

Escape to the stunning Sefton Coast for the chance to experience the completely unique Owl House - an eco-build overlooking sand dunes that won George Clarke's Shed of the Year 2015.  You can't get much more unusual than that!

The Owl House belongs to artist and Paralympian Tracy Caroline Lewis, and was built in 2011 in the garden of her beautiful home in Hightown, eight miles north of Liverpool City Centre.  Its large, lopsided circular windows either side of the wooden door give the delightful appearance of an owl's face (hence the name!).  Charming to the very last detail, from its asymmetrical shape to its mismatched wood panels, the Owl House has been constructed with the environment in mind, using local and reclaimed wood throughout, as well as grass to top the roof for natural insulation.

With views looking out across the Sefton Coast, guests can also use the Owl House as a garden room to relax, snooze, play games or simply gaze at the ships as they pass across the water.  Experience stunning sunsets over the Crosby Channel and take the chance to unwind from the world in this coastal idyll.

Guests have the use of private shower and WC in the main house, as well as access to the stunning kitchen and lounge.  Tracy's artistic background is evident throughout, from the mismatched, comfortable furniture and exposed brick chimneybreast in the lounge, to the driftwood worktops and cabinets in one of the most original kitchens you'll ever see.  The whole effect is one of rustic charm - a comfortable place to relax in and enjoy, with countless reminders of the home's exposed coastal location.

Guests can enjoy free on-site parking, as well as a bicycle shed - which may come in handy with a whole coastline to explore! Hightown itself is a quiet, sleepy community, in complete contrast to the bustle of Liverpool a short drive away.  A five-minute walk will take you over the sand dunes to the beach, where you might even find Anthony Gormley sculptures sharing the magnificent views with you.  The coastal path takes you south to the ancient town of Crosby, while Formby lies to the north for further exploration.  Hightown Station is only ten minutes' walk through the village, with trains running every 15 minutes, and for food and drink, The Pheasant is a very good nearby pub-restaurant within easy walking distance.

The Owl House really is a hidden beauty, tucked away in this quiet corner of the English coast, but a place that, once seen, is never forgotten.  It's not often that owners of these gems are so keen to share them - so why let this chance pass you by?
