The Old Oak Treehouse
England / Nr Ongar, Essex
Full description
A one-of-a-kind tree-treat, lovingly built around a 500-year-old oak set within 200 acres of private farm and meadowland in rural Essex.
Perfect for a romantic getaway that harks back to the pure joy and magic of childhood dreams, you'll discover The Old Oak Treehouse amongst 200 acres of tranquil farm and meadowland in Ongar, Essex.
Less than an hour's commute from central London, you'll feel as though you've stepped into an enchanting fairytale, as you survey the whispering trees, sheep-dotted fields, and glistening spring-fed pond that surround you.
The wooden treehouse itself is elegantly built around a 500-year-old oak, with fairy-lit branches gently winding their way through the stylish rooms, and huge windows to gaze out of, clutching a warm drink (or a glass of wine!)
The living space is built for supreme relaxation, with fluffy rugs and a squishy sofa to snuggle on. There's no TV or Wi-Fi, so you can concentrate on the simple pleasures of chatting and giggling with your loved one... getting to know them all over again.
Equipped with vintage-style crockery and a whistling kettle, the kitchen area is charmingly equipped for romantic suppers, and there's a separate wooden dining table and chairs to help you gaze into each-other's eyes by soft candlelight.
Positioned by an enormous window, the downy double bed all but guarantees a sound night's sleep, whilst also ensuring you'll wake to the most magnificent countryside views as the sun rises over the trees, and the birds sound their morning chorus.
However, we've got a sneaking suspicion it's the bathroom you'll fall in love with the most. Set by yet another huge, gleaming window, the indulgent soaking tub looks right out over the fields. As you relax into mounds of bubbles, softly lit tree trunks all around, you'll feel as though you've been magically spirited away to an enchanted world.
Meanwhile, the veranda is perfect for whiling away some carefree al fresco time, whether you've got your head buried in a good book, or simply listening to the soothing sounds of nature (if you're lucky, you might even spot the local deer gathering, or a rabbit lolloping past.)
If you manage to make it further than the front door, there are plenty of walking trails to follow. If you're in an energetic mood, you can walk or cycle straight into Epping and Ongar, where you can browse the local shops.
Prefer a pub stop? Toot Hill is a mere 15-minute wander away, where you'll stumble across The Green Man, a friendly local that serves fine traditional ale.
The welcoming owners are more than happy to help you with suggestions about how to spend your time, from the best picnic spots, to where to find the best supplies. But if all you feel like doing is hiding blissfully away from the rest of the world, then we can't imagine a more magical - or romantic - place.
Things to note
Check in after 3pm, check out by 11am. The treehouse is not suitable for children, and pets are not permitted due to the site being a working farm. Please note that there is no TV or Wi-Fi in the treehouse.
