The Old Church House
England / Torbryan, Devon
Full description
A unique, folklore-steeped inn dating from the 13th century, nestled in a picturesque village between majestic Dartmoor and Devon's glorious south coast.
Perfect for a special getaway with your favourite people, The Old Church House comfortably accommodates up to 24 guests, and offers a range of services tailored to your needs.
The inn is centred around its incredible, atmospheric bar. Over the centuries, visitors have included Elizabeth I, Henry VIII - there are indentures on the wall to prove it! - and more recently, Arthur Conan Doyle, who is thought to have developed the idea for The Hound of the Baskervilles at the inn.
Relax with your choice of local ale, cider and lager on tap (the first barrel is included), along with a tailored selection of wines and spirits if they should take your fancy. And that's not all, as bar staff, wine and gin tastings can also be provided on request.
There are plenty of leisure areas for everybody to enjoy, including a cosy lounge-and-library centred around a large log fire, a snooker room, a darts alley, and snugs. The split level dining area features a breakfast bar with a tea urn and a large coffee maker to help your mornings get off to an energised start - or why not enjoy breakfast in the beer garden, with plenty of space for al fresco dining?
There's a large kitchen with fridges, freezers, a dishwasher, and a large cooker, to help keep everybody fed and watered. Though if you'd prefer to sit back and relax while someone else does the cooking, there will be local chefs and caterers on hand to whip up feasts of your choice... you could even arrange for a band to play in the bar while you tuck in!
(Oh, and delicious cakes or afternoon teas can be supplied for your return from walks on Dartmoor or a day at the beach - just ask.)
At the end of your day, make your way to one of the individually styled bedrooms, themed on Dartmoor wildlife. You'll find a selection of family, kingsize, single, and twin rooms, each with own en-suite, flatscreen TV, and tea and coffee-making facilities.
While South Devon's natural wonders and tourist attractions provide plenty to do, you can also choose from a range of tailored activities. These include art classes, yoga and wellness events, wine tastings, gin mixology - or if you're feeling brave, even a paranormal investigation!
Things to note
Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome at an additional charge (£50) per dog. Dogs must be kept within the fenced garden area at all times. Travel cots and highchairs are provided, with cot bedding available on request. Please note that there are steps throughout the property.
