Once a dilapidated farm building, The Linhay has been transformed by a dedicated local team of craftspeople into an idyllic off-grid holiday cottage, surrounded by birdsong, trees and the delicate rushing of the nearby river Caen.

You’ll find the lovingly restored Linhay nestled in a secluded valley near Braunton, with its very own area in an ancient oak wood that overlooks a sparkling water meadow.  You’ll also have a glorious deck all to yourselves, peacefully nestled in the riverside glade for energising morning yoga, or lazy afternoons with a good book for company.

Magically positioned to bring complete peace and relaxation for up to four people and one well-behaved dog, you’ll also be achingly close to the spectacular golden beaches on the North Devon coast, with the invigorating Exmoor National Park and South West Coast Path close by.

You’ll approach your new holiday home on foot, with a wheelbarrow to transport your luggage on the two-minute walk from your car. Feel delightfully isolated from the rest of the world, and as though you’ve stepped back to refreshing times past, as you explore your cosy surroundings.

There is no electricity or distracting WiFi here; simply comfortable furnishings in a sunlight-flooded space, with cheery décor and invigorating pops of colour throughout.

You’ll also be delighted to discover a Devon cream tea with homemade scones waiting to welcome you on arrival, as well as eggs from the owners’ own chickens (or local organic eggs when the girls are on a go slow!)

The open plan living area features a comfy sofa that transforms into a double bed by evening (though your main sleeping space is up on the mezzanine), along with a generous dining table and a well-equipped galley kitchen with a four-burner gas hob. A cool box takes care of chilled food, while the woodburner doubles as a wood-fired oven with hot plate on top, keeping both you and your meals deliciously toasty.

Take a picnic over to your private deck (it’s less than a minute’s walk away) or watch the river’s gentle ebbs and flows from your very own bench.  Oh, and stargazing in the vast night sky has never looked so tempting, particularly when accompanied by toasted marshmallows!

When it’s time to turn in, simply climb the wooden ladder to the mezzanine platform, where you’ll find a comfy kingsize bed perfectly positioned for you to continue stargazing and sunrise-watching through Velux windows. There’s an ensuite shower room, too – complete with piping hot water and a flushing loo.

After a sound, silent night’s sleep and a breakfast accompanied by joyous birdsong, it’s time to explore…if you can tear yourselves away, that is!
