The Laundry Retreat
Wales / Llanrhaeadr, Denbighshire
Full description
Luxury log-cabin-style hideaways, surrounded by breath-taking gardens on a historic Grade II-listed property in North Wales.
In a true labour of love, friendly owners Tom and Jenny have spent years designing and developing the beautiful gardens on the grounds of their 18th century home, which was once the laundry and dairy to Llanrhaeadr Hall.
And if you're in need of some well-deserved rest and reconnection with nature, you can opt to stay in the gently restored Grade II-listed property itself...
... or in the magical Roundhouses; adults-only hideaways with mesmerising views of the Clwydian Range. A designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with huge, clear skies that are perfect for stargazing, you'll soon be lost in scenic heaven.
Naturefully named Tilia and Ilex (brand-new addition Ilex will be opening its doors very soon), the Roundhouses are circular, timber-framed eco-buildings that are reminiscent of a soothing log cabin, and are perfectly equipped to allow you to soak up the blissful peace and quiet and to switch off from the hassles of everyday life.
With your roundhouse purposefully facing eastwards, you'll be able to clutch a steaming mug of coffee and watch the sun rise gently over the horizon - but if you can't get out of that dreamy kingsize bed with its luxury cotton sheets, no problem. Huge, extra-height windows mean that amazing vista can come to you.
Meanwhile, every holiday indulgence is more than catered for, from the large shower, locally sourced toiletries and fluffy bathrobes, to a gorgeous mini kitchen... though you'll also find an outdoor hob and cooker that are ideal for lazy al fresco suppers. You'll even be supplied with a welcome hamper containing locally sourced and homemade essentials, to help get your stay off to a delicious start.
Linger outside well into the evening... simply pour another glass of wine, and light the firepit to stay nice and toasty (marshmallows and storytelling optional!)
It'll be hard to think about leaving, but if you're able to manage it, you'll be rewarded with some glorious walking routes, peppered with ancient churches and iron age hill forts.
If you really want to test those hiking boots, the Offa's Dyke Path is the longest walk in the Vale of Clwyd, or head for Denbigh Castle for a majestic meander.
Fancy a night off from cooking? There are plenty of places to eat close by, while if you prefer jumping in the car and rooting out the local attractions, Bodnant Gardens are 40 minutes away, while the charms of Mount Snowdon and the thrills of Zipworld can be reached in just over an hour, and the walled cathedral city of Chester is just 45 mins away.
If you're feeling spoilt for choice, Tom and Jenny will be happy to help you put together an itinerary for your stay, including yoga and personal training sessions for those who want to get active ... though if all else fails, you could always sit back, relax, and take advantage of the blissful peace and quiet.
