Fall headlong in love with the Welsh countryside, in a peaceful, detail-oriented hut that's been lovingly crafted for you to unwind.
  • Sleeps: 2
  • Bedroom: 1
  • Bathroom: 1
  • Minimum stay: 2 nights

When friendly owners Dinah and John were designing their beloved Charcoal Hut, they had the word “cwtch” at the forefront of their minds.

The Welsh version of hygge, “cwtch” roughly translates to “hug” in English. And you could say that Dinah and John have succeeded in their aim, as you’ll feel immediately enveloped in a warm, soothing embrace just as soon as you arrive.

The setting helps, of course. Achingly close to the Brecon Beacons, you’ll be perfectly secluded amongst enchanting woodland, surrounded by diverse wildlife, birdsong, and whispering trees. In fact, such is their commitment to their land and the environment, Dinah and John have pledged to plant a new tree for every booking they take.

You’ll discover the two hand-built, off-grid huts – one housing your bedroom, and the other your kitchen and bathroom – at the end of a peaceful track. Illuminated by twinkling fairy lights, you’ll find plenty to keep you occupied during cosy evenings in, including board games, books, artist’s materials, and a record player with a good selection of records.

The downy king-sized bed all but guarantees a sound night’s sleep, and there’s plenty of seating for you to watch the world go by during the day. When the weather’s good, you can open up the doors and sit out on the deck instead, or of course banish the cold thanks to the inviting hot tub, where you can relax and unwind and feel your cares float away as you surround yourself by the sounds of nature.

Simply meander along the track to reach your kitchen and bathroom, ably equipped with a small fridge freezer, gas hobs, a barbecue (with John’s homemade charcoal for fuel), and a gas-powered shower with compost loo.

A great deal of thought, care and attention has gone into every last detail at The Charcoal Hut, and it shows. You’ll find plenty of blankets to snuggle under, along with plump, soft cushions, and well-chosen accessories throughout.
