  • Sleeps: 2
  • Bedroom: 1
  • Bathroom: 1
  • Minimum stay: 2 nights

Comprising four scenic working farms, and a cosy selection of properties, the charming Duffus Estate has been in the Dunbar family since the late 1600s.

The newest retreat on the welcoming estate, evocatively named Cabin by the Castle, is a heavenly eco-friendly haven that showcases exceptional views of Duffus Castle ruins, a former mott-and-bailey fortress that dates all the way back to 1140.

Perfect for a couple in need of some natural soul-refreshment, there are plenty of cosy delights waiting to greet you inside the solar-powered cabin.

These include a butter-soft corner sofa, a ultra-snuggly Ava Innes cashmere duvet, and enormous windows – not to mention a mouth-watering welcome hamper! – all of which add to an irresistible sense of “coorie” (the Scottish version of hygge).

Savour southerly views of those romantic castle ruins whether you’re in the sumptuous lounge, the modern-equipped kitchen, or the elegant bedroom… marvelling at how spellbindingly they catch the light from Moray’s magnificent sunrises and sunsets.

And when you’ve woken from your restful night’s sleep in the kingsize bed, you can freshen up in the piping hot electric shower, furnished with Highland Soap Co. toiletries, and a stack of fluffy Egyptian cotton towels to wrap up in.

What to do after you’ve enjoyed your hearty, home-cooked breakfast? Well, you could pay a visit to the castle ruins and view them up close, or explore the vibrant 14 acres of woodland that surrounds Duffus House.

What the guests of The Cabin by the Castle say

“Thank you for our perfect stay at the Cabin by the Castle. Our whole experience cannot be faulted and was beyond all expectations. We loved everything about the Cabin which epitomises a “coorie” experience.  Everything we possibly needed was provided in the Cabin. It was all luxurious, cosy and so thoughtful. The information about the surrounding area with recommendations was super helpful. We were very reassured that we were as safe as possible in these Covid times. The view was spectacular and it was so lovely to visit the castle, Kula Coffee Hut was a cherry on the top – excellent coffee with very friendly staff. Thank you so much for making our 30th Wedding Anniversary and Christmas so special.”

“Cabin by the Castle was absolutely wonderful – we woke up to a wonderful sunrise over the castle which you can watch from the bed. The cabin had everything we needed and was in a perfect location with lots of things around it. Caroline was so helpful in giving us lots of tips for the local area. Will definitely be back again.”

“We had never visited Scotland before and wanted to give it a go; it did not disappoint. We were rural and only saw a handful of people – those we did see were super friendly. The cabin was beautiful; immaculately clean and every detail thought of. A scandi style with plenty of space for 2, cosy living room, adequate kitchen and comfy bedroom. The best part about the accommodation….the view…that amazing view! The pictures don’t do it justice I’m afraid but waking up seeing the sun rise around Duffus castle is something I will always remember. Needless to say, I didn’t want to come home because our visit really was perfect. We are already talking about having another visit.”
