  • Bathrooms: 2
  • Minimum stay: 2 nights

Filled with both heart and style, The Bolthole is a unique retreat that’s been beautifully constructed around a Victorian railway carriage, and superbly positioned in the heart of Pagham Harbour RSPB Nature Reserve.

(You’ll be so close to the sea, in fact, that you’ll be able to dip your toes into the water from the bottom of the beachfront firepit area!)

Although there’s plenty to remind you of blissful times gone by, you’ll soon find that The Bolthole is anything but a relic from the past. Dripping with contemporary style, there are plenty of Instagram-able touches, including funky pineapple wall sconces, up-to-the-minute grey panelling, and stylish industrial lighting.

The cosy living room features a squishy modular sofa and armchairs, with a wealth of evening entertainment that includes a Roberts radio, a Netflix-equipped TV with an Amazon Fire Stick, and an Alexa music speaker to help you set the perfect mood.

Cook up a storm in the sociable kitchen, complete with a sofa-style breakfast bar for casual morning chats over a Nespresso coffee (there’s even an Aeroccino milk frother for that ‘urban cappuccino bar’ feel!) You’ll also be greeted by a welcome pack of essentials, including bread, eggs and milk – oh, and not forgetting a ready supply of marshmallows for toasting later on.

After enjoying a home-cooked dinner in the conservatory dining room, which faces the sea, you can head outside to watch the sun sinking over the water from the comfort of your very own furnished beach firepit… what bliss!

Back on board, there are four elegant bedrooms to choose from, some of which are positioned under the original bowed carriage ceilings, for an authentic ‘sleeper car’ atmosphere.

What the guests of The Bolthole say

“A great spot right on the beach. We had a fab weekend here as a group of 8. The house had everything you needed, we were very comfortable and able to cook. Lovely walks around the nature reserve and some nice pubs nearby. Loved that marshmallows were provided for the fire pit.”

“This house is fabulous, right on the beach so in a great position with a great view, but it is inside that the house shines. Beautifully decorated to a really high standard and ‘Quirky’ train carriage bedrooms. Beds are so comfy and the furnishing are exquisite, someone knows the best sheets to buy. A really great find. Forgive the bumpy road it’s situated on and come to this outstanding property. We loved it. Thanks for the nice welcome and outstanding hospitality…”

“We had a fabulous stay at The Bolthole last weekend. The property was ideal for our 2 families and we look forward to returning during the Summer sometime to take advantage of the long summer evenings and fabulous location on the beach. Our children loved the trampoline and table tennis table. The beds were so comfy and we loved the style and furnishings throughout.”
