Stocklinch Shepherd's Hut
England / Ilminster, Somerset
Full description
A double award-winning, bespoke-crafted and friendly retreat, deliciously nestled in a beautiful, ‘hidden' corner of Somerset.
Ever since friendly owners Matt and Fiona opened their beautiful Somerset shepherd's hut for business, the accolades have kept on coming...
...some awarded from prestigious bodies such as the Bristol, Bath and Somerset Tourism Awards (an area in which, as you can imagine, there is a lot of competition!)
Yet as soon as you arrive, you'll see why Stocklinch Shepherd's Hut is regularly singled out as something special. Lovingly hand-crafted by Matt's master carpenter brother Jim, the hut is both instantly relaxing, and full of thoughtful attention to detail.
The setting helps, of course. On discovering the perfect corner for their bespoke-crafted hut, Matt and Fiona immediately set about planting hundreds of trees. So, you can expect plenty of blissful privacy, surrounded by gently swaying willows and lush greenery that don't distract from the spectacular views towards the Blackdown and Quantock Hills.
Cosily insulated with sheep's wool, the hut's supremely clever design means there's a great deal of comfort and convenience packed into the 7' x 15' space. You'll have everything you could possibly need, and a great deal more besides.
First up is the impossibly comfy double bed, with a feather duvet that's perfect for snuggling under. Your deluxe en-suite is home to a power shower and a heated towel rail (not to mention a ‘proper' flushing loo), with toiletries and fluffy towels in plentiful supply.
Meanwhile, the cosy kitchen is equipped with a multi-functional oven and a two-ring hob, ideal for whipping up a hearty breakfast from the fresh supplies you'll be left with! Enjoy the fruits of your culinary labours at the table and chairs you'll find outside, with the whispering trees and joyous birdsong as your morning soundtrack.
(Oh, and did we mention the hand-crafted Scandinavian wood-fired hot tub you'll find in the surrounding orchard? Just the place for sunset-watching, especially when equipped with a glass or two of bubbles).
In between times, Matt and Fiona are only too happy to advise you on some of the best places to go during your stay. Certainly, you're in a wonderful position to explore the unspoilt Somerset countryside, as well as hotspots including Lyme Regis and the Jurassic Coast...or how about packing a picnic and heading towards those soothing hills?
It hardly needs saying that Somerset is renowned for its food and drink, so if you're in the mood to eat out every now and again, there are plenty of local delis, restaurants and cafés to while away some time in.
Filled with sensory delights, it's time to head back to your enchanting shepherd's hut. Just in time to grab some blankets, light the firepit, and toast marshmallows together, as you chat the star-studded evening away in perfect comfort.
Things to note
Check in between 3-8pm, check out by 11am. The hut is suitable for two adults over 21, pets and children are not permitted. No smoking.
