Full description

Explore the tranquil waterways of North England with an unforgettable narrowboat escape, where the wonderful Woodstock and Queenie are waiting for you to climb aboard!

Moored at the picturesque Anderton Marina on the Trent and Mersey Canal, these two blue beauties are perfectly located for you to begin an exciting adventure on Britain's canals. Even better, the superb team at Star Narrowboat Holidays will offer you Woodstock or Queenie for anything from weekend breaks to longer getaways, starting on a day of the week to suit you - giving you flexibility and freedom you might not find elsewhere.

Both beautifully appointed narrowboats are fully equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay, with additional luxuries of gas central heating aboard Woodstock, and a solid fuel stove aboard Queenie, along with plenty of storage space. Woodstock and Queenie have been tastefully finished and furnished to bring real touches of home to your waterway adventure.

A generous 57 feet long, and sleeping two to four adults, stylish Woodstock features a reverse layout. You'll enter from the back deck straight into the galley (or the kitchen, for non-sailors!). Struck by her antique wooden interior, you'll note the clever use of space, and her unique beauty throughout.

From the galley, step through to the comfortable lounge area, complete with a fold-away wooden table and a welcoming settee (which converts to a comfy double bed). Pour a glass of wine, and watch the world pass by through the windows on each side.

Towards the front of Woodstock, you'll find the bathroom with a plumbed-in cassette toilet and ceramic bowl, and then at the very front is a superking bed, or two singles if you prefer. Whichever you choose, curl up in your cosy bed and look forward to blissful mornings as the sunshine spills through the doors to the front deck.

For couples, 50ft-long Queenie offers the perfect amount of space for two. Like Woodstock, she has a reverse layout, with a cheery yellow and blue galley waiting for you as you step inside. Again, everything you could possibly need for simple self-catering is here, including a gas cooker, fridge-freezer and lots of well chosen utensils.

Leading through to the lounge area, relax in one of the comfy leather easy chairs beside the solid fuel stove, or perhaps enjoy a coffee at the table for two as you plan your route through stunning countryside and exciting cities. Beyond, there's a modern bathroom with a shower, sink and plumbed-in cassette toilet, plus storage space and hanging space for your clothes and towels.

At the front of Queenie, you'll find a light and airy bedroom, where the fixed double bed is perfectly placed for views of the canal through the front deck doors. What better way to enjoy each morning than in the comfort of this wonderful sanctuary, knowing you can take it with you to your next destination?

And with the whole of the UK canal network waiting to be explored, you'll find yourself spoiled for choice as to where to go! If you're just setting sail for a few days, cast off from Anderton Marina and onto the Trent and Mersey canal just near the Anderton Boat Lift - one of the 7 wonders of the canal system. Or why not cruise to the charming Cheshire village of Lymm, stopping off at a country pub or two on the way?

If you're planning a longer escape, there's so much more to see, with popular Liverpool an ideal destination for breaks of 10 days or more. In fact, with access to the Cheshire Ring, the Four Counties Ring, The Anderton Boat Lift, the Rochdale Canal, the Leeds Liverpool Canal, The Trent and Mersey, as well as the Lancaster Canal and Llangollen, your escape with Star Narrowboat Holidays can be exactly how you choose to make it.

Wherever you go, rest assured you'll receive all the training and guidance you need to feel fully confident before setting off on your narrowboat. There's advice aplenty for ideal itineraries to suit your time and ability - and even many lock-free routes to make things easier!

So whether it's your first time on a narrowboat or you're an old hand, whether you have a weekend or weeks to spare, or whether you love the buzz of big cities or the peace of the countryside, Star Narrowboat Holidays offers the perfect way to see it all, experience it all and enjoy it all - courtesy of Queenie and Woodstock.

Tried and tested

"It's been our first time ever on a narrowboat and we've truly loved it - and with any luck, it won't be our last! ‘Queenie' is just dreamy and actually better equipped than some self-catering places we've stayed in so 5 star! Some really lovely and thoughtful touches including fairy lights and hot water bottles, and everything is so beautifully clean. We also love the décor and how homely it is. It doesn't feel like a holiday home but more like a ‘home from home'."

"Amazing birthday surprise! A little daunted at the prospect initially but Hester's laid back nature and expert tuition put me right at ease, got the hang of it in no time. Made our way to Lymm with plenty of stops at beautiful spots along the way. Boat is immaculate, it's been a real pleasure!"

"Here we are again! It is now exactly 1 year since we finished our first cruise with ‘Queenie', and already then we had a strong feeling that it would not be the last! So in September last year we decided to book her for 3 weeks this summer to have sufficient time to go to Wales and the Llangollen canal. Unfortunately, we had to make a plan B since the breach of the Shropshire Union canal stopped us from completing our plan A. We have therefore enjoyed one more cruising of the Cheshire Ring, but this time extending our cruise to all the way to Marple Junction and down the Upper Peak Forest canal to Bugsworth Basin. There we met with Hester and Steven and spent a most pleasant and enjoyable evening with them at The Old Hall pub in Chinley. Once again we have had the most wonderful canal cruise with ‘Queenie'!"
