Full description
An elegantly converted church filled with divine luxury, for a heavenly break in the heart of rural Devon.

Originally built by the Earl of Portsmouth in 1891, St Michael and All Angels is a strikingly elegant former church that boasts an unusual Saddleback tower (featuring a ridge and two gently sloping sides).

You'll find just as many visual delights inside too, with plenty of beautifully preserved historic features offset by opulent furnishings, tasteful décor and high-end fittings. Situated in the rural Devon hamlet of Hollocombe, your setting is ideal for a relaxing family or group break surrounded by fresh green views.

(Better still, this is a church that doesn't come with a graveyard!)

Sleeping up to six people and one well-behaved pet, there are three generous, vaulted-ceilinged bedrooms to choose from on the first floor. The en-suite master features a double-ended bath and a downy kingsized bed, while the other cosy rooms are a double and a twin. There's also a spacious bathroom with a walk-in shower and a sumptuous tub, along with a second shower room downstairs.

Once you've chosen your favourite bedroom, congregate in the warmly inviting lounge area, complete with exquisite stained-glass windows, comfy seating and a crackling woodburner. If you tire of those gorgeous rural views, the Freeview TV and DVD player should keep everybody occupied!

The state-of-the-art kitchen is fit for the vicar's tea and much more besides, with a central island, two electric ovens, an American-style fridge-freezer and those all-important essentials...a microwave and a dishwasher. The relaxing, tiled-floor dining room is the perfect spot to sit down and enjoy those celestial feasts, over a well-deserved glass or two of wine.

Later on, why not curl up in the vestry, light the wood burner and get lost in a good book?

By day, you'll discover plenty to explore in the surrounding area - that is, if you can tear yourselves away from the patio; the perfect spot for scenic al-fresco dining and morning coffee as the sun rises.

You can take a gentle stroll along the public footpaths and bridleways accessed directly from the house, or travel slightly further afield to the nearby villages of Winkleigh, Chulmleigh and Dolton, all of which feature a charming array of shops, pubs and coffee shops.

Keen walkers and cyclists will also find plenty to enjoy, with the renowned Tarka trail in easy reach, and both Exmoor and Dartmoor National Parks accessed within 25 minutes.

Jump on a train and head to Exeter or Barnstaple, or visit the weekly farmers' market at South Molton and stock up on local delicacies.  Oh, and on sunny days, you're well within reach of the spectacular beaches Devon is justly famous for.

With so much luxury inside and out of St Michael and All Angels, you may just feel like you've arrived at heaven itself.
