Your worry is most certainly for another day when you stay at Sally Port Cottage. This one-storey holiday home at St Anthony’s Lighthouse in St Mawes (the location for iconic children’s programme Fraggle Rock!) makes for a fantastic seaside retreat and a unique holiday to remember.

Sally Port Cottage and the adjacent lighthouse are located at the very furthest point of Cornwall’s Roseland Peninsula.  Totally private and with no public access, you can relax in complete seclusion, with just the rocks, the sea, and unbeatable views for company.

Sleeping four in total, Sally Port Cottage is an ideal holiday home for an older family, or even a romantic retreat for two.  After a long journey, this gorgeous sanctuary is ready to welcome you, located at the end of a 300-metre long, steep path from the headland above.  Beautifully finished in every way, the light, airy décor throughout complements the seaside location.  What’s more, every opportunity has been taken to make the most of those sea views – magnificent from sunrise through to sunset.

This single-storey home has everything you need to holiday in complete comfort.  The homely sitting room is a calming place to relax around the electric wood burner.  Sink into a plush leather sofa or armchair to watch a film or two, or perhaps listen to some soothing music, and feel the worries of the world wash away.

The fully equipped, country-style kitchen has everything you need for self-catering, with the added conveniences of a dishwasher and laundry facilities.  A drop-leaf dining table allows everyone to dine together, without taking up unnecessary space when not in use.

The Master bedroom at Sally Port Cottage is a haven of tranquillity, finished in relaxing colours of stone, white and duck egg blue.  The super king size bed will have you sleeping restfully all night long and, for added convenience, can be separated into two twin beds if needed.  This room also has the luxury of an en-suite shower room.

The second bedroom – a twin bedroom – has been finished in soft oatmeal, cream and white, and has more than enough storage for all your belongings.  Passing along, you’ll reach the family bathroom, complete with a bath and separate shower.

More information

A few steps away from Sally Port Cottage is your very own Observation Room – a cosy indoor spot to soak up the magnificent views through the large window.  Take your morning coffee or afternoon tea here, indulge in a spot of reading, or sit back with your binoculars and watch for passing ships, sweeping clouds, or stars at night.

On fine days, you can also enjoy Sally Port Cottage’s patio area – a perfect suntrap to catch a few rays and feel the soft breeze, all to the soundtrack of breaking waves and calling gulls.  The cottage is also located conveniently for the beach, so you don’t need to travel far if you can’t resist a paddle!

St Mawes itself is a charming, historic, seaside town, and a popular spot for visitors (including ones of the royal variety!).  You can even find the oldest small bakery in Cornwall here, dating back to 1912.  Indulge in freshly baked bread, cakes, scones and – of course – Cornish pasties!

Cornwall’s capital, Truro, is a 40-minute, scenic drive away, and is well worth the visit for its famous cathedral.  Visit Falmouth for its busy harbour, before heading to St Ives – an artists’ hub and home to The Tate at St Ives.  Brave a cliff-side walk at The Lizard Peninsula, or take things a little slower at The Lost Gardens of Heligan.  Once you’ve worked up an appetite, sample fresh fare at one of Rick Stein’s seafood restaurants or Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen.

After busy days out and about, Sally Port Cottage will be awaiting your return – your little piece of heaven at the water’s edge, surrounded by sea, rocks, and solitude.
