Round the Woods
England / Weston Longville, Norfolk
Come and unwind with luxury eco-friendly glamping, set in 18 beautifully serene acres of Norfolk countryside.
If you're looking for a fresh escape from stale everyday life, take a wander Round The Woods - wildlife and wildflower-strewn woods to be exact - with two lovingly handcrafted yurts set in charming Norfolk countryside.
Recently featured on BBC's 'Gone Fishing', i's not hard to see why Round The Woods has also featured as one of The Guardian's best ‘back to nature' stays. Sparkling ponds and streams make for a soothingly tranquil backdrop, with an orchard containing lush fruit trees and several friendly, free-roaming chickens and geese. Perhaps make your acquaintance with the local barn owl as it hunts for food, along with the hares and deer grazing in the meadow!
Discover something for absolutely everybody along your way, from families looking for revitalising adventure, to couples seeking a romantic and natural retreat full of lasting memories.
The two enchantingly homely yurts - Oak Tree and Hazelnut, which can also be booked together for larger gatherings - are each a spacious 6m in diameter, sleep up to five adults and an infant, and are perfectly and privately positioned in a large field that's ideal for games of all description! If you don't feel like joining in, why not gaze out over the meadow from the comfort of your hammock instead?
From Summer 2020 a year-round bespoke natural build roundhouse will be ready for guests to stay in; a peaceful space to relax and reconnect with nature. Expect equally clean, fresh and comfortable interiors with everything you could possibly need but with added quirks and beautiful handcrafted detailing. This unique structure is made with roundwood timber, strawbale walls, clay plaster, sheeps wool insulation and is topped off with a reciprocal roof with sedum on the top.
Family owned and with a Gold Accreditation from Green Tourism, you can rest assured that as you while away your days in the wondrous woods, exceptional care is taken not only with your stay, but also of the surrounding area and the local environment. The yurts are crafted from British timber and are off-grid with solar-powered energy, each one features its own composting toilet and kindling is used from the woodland, and guests are encouraged to recycle wherever possible.
You'll find cooking equipment provided, and your first morning meal is made easy with a welcome hamper containing locally-sourced breakfast and campfire treats to get your stay off to the perfect start. Prepare meals on your gas stove, or the handmade woodburning stove that also houses a handy oven, before enjoying your culinary efforts around a sociable dining table.
Later on, light a warming log fire and huddle around with your loved ones, equipped with cosy blankets and throws, to swap holiday stories and tales of adventure, surrounded by twinkling solar fairy lights and the soft glow from tea lights...what could possibly be more relaxing?
You'll also find a communal campfire pit if you feel like venturing out and staging an evening singsong with some new friends, along with that all-important marshmallow toasting, of course.
When tiredness finally sets in, head for the comfort of your king-sized bed, dressed in Hungarian goose down duvet and pillows with fresh cotton linen. There are also wooden futons inside your yurt that by day masquerade as cleverly comfortable seating - and you'll find you won't need to leave your bed to enjoy gazing at the stars, with your yurt's romantic skylight that by day allows natural light to come flooding inside.
Facilities are plentiful and convenient, with communal shower rooms that feature plenty of hot water, plus a hairdryer and shaving socket. Your yurt includes its own private composting toilet, together with running water for hand washing...and a supply of gorgeously fluffy Egyptian cotton towels.
The shower building is also home to a games selection , so why not see if you can beat your loved ones at a good old-fashioned game of Battleships? There are nets available for pond dipping, den building kits for hardened miniature explorers, and plenty of books on wildlife and local history.
During the day, why not take a ramble and explore the local area? The site is within easy reach of local pubs serving good food, along with family attractions including Pensthorpe Natural Park and the thrilling Dinosaur Adventure!
Beach lovers won't be disappointed either, with an array of wonderfully unspoilt beaches nearby. The city of Norwich, ideal for shopaholics and culture-vultures alike, is a mere 20 minutes away, along with a selection of coastal towns and market villages for an authentic taste of local life.
No matter which of your loved ones you decide bring with you, you're guaranteed a memorable and relaxing stay, full of opportunities for adventure and reconnection in fresh, revitalising woodland. What are you waiting for?
