A mere hour away from Faro Airport and achingly close to the coast, Quinta do Catalão is a family-run organic farm that doubles as a refreshing, natureful sanctuary.

The farm is a true labour of love, rescued from its abandoned state by Karolina, Max and their three children. With hard work, they proceeded to transform the site into a thriving homestead, complete with an organic vegetable garden and friendly, cared-for animals.

You’ll find an eclectic, eco-friendly selection of accommodation here, along with tasty, home-prepared meals (there’s even a traditional wood-fired pizza oven to help your evenings along!), a welcome bottle of wine, and generous facilities.

The romantic tipi is ideal for dreamy nights under the stars, complete with a handmade wooden double bed, an outdoor sofa, and soft-glowing solar lights (though with that clear, unpolluted sky overhead, you might find the light from a thousand stars is more than enough!) Meanwhile, you’ll find a shower and toilet just a short walk away, along with shared kitchen facilities.

The rustic, 14m2 Tiny House is lovingly crafted from recycled materials, proving that good things really do come in small packages! Ideal for two, there’s a front terrace that’s perfect for sunset-watching, a small kitchenette, and a deliciously cosy double bed, along with a shower-equipped bathroom.

Sleeping up to three guests (two adults and a child), the two snug shepherd’s huts are a great choice for families who want to get back to nature. Equipped with a double bed, a boutique kitchenette, and a large window that allows daylight to flood inside, you won’t want to leave!

There’s also a traditional Portuguese farmhouse for larger groups, or guests who prefer more conventional accommodation.

What the guests of Quinta do Catalao say

“Highly recommended! The tipi is a wonderful place to stay. It is very romantic and the night sky is so beautiful! We got greeted with a bottle of wine and were provided with all the necessary information. The shower made from the watering can is a real experience which you should try at least once. It was the perfect place to stay to fully relax and take up the beauty of the countryside.”

“Our stay at Karolina’s rustic tiny house was absolute heaven. The rustic house is incredibly cute and homely with a lovely balcony out the back which you can sit on and watch the sunset. Karolina’s farm is about 6-7km out of Lagos so you do need a car for access, but it is so quick and easy to get into Lagos or one of the smaller seaside villages, and the location makes it worth it for that view of the stars and the night sky. It was just what we were looking for: incredibly peaceful, tranquil and somewhere a bit different to the tourist apartments and hotels. Karolina’s husband was also very informative with tips about good beaches and coves to visit that only the locals know about. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to come back at some point!”

“This was the favourite part of our trip in Portugal. The place was beautiful and perfect for glamping. There were lots of cute farm animals greeting us every day including Lucky the dog and geese. Our host Max was very welcoming and gave us very good tips for the area including secluded beaches and local food. The farm fresh breakfast was amazing! Highly recommended. It is in good proximity (maybe 10 min) from central Lagos by car but would be harder to get around otherwise although Max was very willing to drive those who did not have their own transportation. Overall we had an amazing experience and would definitely return during another trip to the area.”
