Picton Castle Gatehouse
Wales / Rhos near Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire
Full description
A refined getaway in an historic gatehouse, set within the luxurious grounds of Pembrokeshire's finest stately home.
Dating all the way back to the 13th century, Picton Castle is a true childhood fantasy setting, set amongst forty acres of beautiful grounds that have been described as the finest in Wales.
Here you'll find an enchanting maze, an immaculate walled garden complete with fountains and a myriad of wildflower woodland walks.
Stay directly on these stunning grounds themselves, in a castellated, Grade II-listed 19th century gatehouse lodge that feels like you're living in your very own mini-castle!
Set by the castle's main entrance, the West Lodge is perfect for two couples or a small family (the East Lodge on the other side is a romantic retreat for two). You can even bring two well-behaved pets along, to experience the right royal treatment!
Inside, discover the perfect blend of traditional and modern, with high-end renovations that allow the Lodge's unique historic features to shine. Enter into the bright, well-equipped kitchen and dining room, with its grand high ceilings and sociable seating for four people.
The cosy snug is ideal for chatty evenings in, with books, games and puzzles all supplied (and a TV with DVD player, if you get tired of talking to each-other!)
Further along, choose from two bedrooms, a kingsize and a twin, both comfortably furnished for lazy lie-ins. Morning freshen-ups are taken care of by the spacious family bathroom, which features a bath with handy shower over.
Though you'll have those glorious 40-acre grounds at your disposal during your stay, you can also enjoy the privacy of your own paved terrace area...ideal for al fresco drinks by sunset!
Of course, as distinguished guests, you'll be entitled to a complimentary tour of Picton Castle, where you'll find plenty for everyone to see and do. The Courtyard includes a children's art room and gift shop (not to mention Maria's Mediterranean restaurant!), while outside there's an occasional open-air theatre, regular garden lectures...and a secret owl garden in the sweet-scented bluebell wood.
Further afield, a short drive will take you to the breathtaking Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, while if you've developed a taste for the good life, why not book a cheese and wine tasting session at Cwm Deri Vineyard, just three miles away?
Head back to your castle-style sanctuary at the end of a long day...just in time to pour a tipple and relax.
Things to note
Travel cot and highchair available on request, two well behaved dogs are permitted to stay upon prior arrangement, no smoking.
