From a fun-filled family holiday to a romantic break for two, a spot of luxurious glamping at Penhein ticks all the boxes. Escape to nature on this family-run farm in the heart of the Monmouthshire Hills, and find an exquisite collection of gorgeous Persian-inspired tents for a fantastic rural retreat.
If you've never stayed in an Alachigh tent before (pronounced ‘alla-cheeg'!), Penhein is the perfect place to experience your first. Hailing from Iran and similar to a yurt, this circular beauty features everything you need for a relaxing break from life. Tucked away in secluded woodland, each Alachigh has been custom-made for glamping, giving you all the luxury of a boutique hotel in an unforgettable rustic setting.
The Alachighs each bear the name of one of Penhein's fields or woodland areas, and are all set in their own space for a sense of perfect solitude. Behind the wooden front door is a simple yet elegant haven, cosy and inviting, yet surprisingly spacious. Feel the weight lift from your shoulders as you settle in among beautiful homely touches, including fresh flowers on pallet bedside tables and vintage Penguin books to get lost in.
Each Alachigh sleeps two adults and four children, or five adults, in perfect luxury - thanks to the proper beds topped with crisp white linen and cheery bedspreads. Choose from the double bed (which can also be configured as two singles), the two cosy truckle beds or the sofa bed. Wherever you lay your head, everyone can catch a glimpse of the stars through the skylight window above - a rare sight from your pillow.
From the tea-light candelabra to the wood-burning stove, everything has been carefully included for the most wonderful stay. The kitchen area comes with all the cooking essentials you need, a table and chairs (ideal for dining together or a game of cards!), and even a sink with fresh running water from a natural spring on the farm. And, with an en-suite loo attached to every Alachigh, there's no need for midnight dashes in the dark!
Cook up a storm on your fire pit - perfect for baking potatoes, toasting marshmallows or a delicious BBQ (you'll find meat rub in your Alachigh!), or take things easy on your wood-burner - ideal for boiling pasta, heating soup, or even sizzling bacon in the morning. If campsite cooking isn't quite your bag, fear not - the cheat's kitchen is on offer to make things easier.
All guests to Penhein also have full use of the luxurious shower block, finished with Mandarin stone tiles and heavenly underfloor heating. Freshen up in one of the four monsoon showers or, to really put the ‘glam' in glamping, relax back in the roll-top bath for pure indulgence. You can also use the handy drying room - ideal for drying off wet clothes if you get caught in the rain on your day's adventures.
Speaking of which, there's so much to do in the surrounding area, you'll never be short of ways to spend your time here. From outdoor activities to fascinating museums, there's something to suit all interests and ages. Luckily, the owners at Penhein are on hand to offer any advice you need, and have even designed a list of hand-picked days out, including Adventure Days, Castle Days, Fine Days and Rainy Days.
And then of course, there are the adventures to be had at Penhein itself, from boot camp challenges and nature trails for the active, to bushcraft and geocaching for the curious. The group tent - Petro - is ideal for friends and families holidaying together to gather round for a catch-up in comfy tub chairs or a board game tournament. With seating for 30, a wood burning stove and a huge firepit outside designed for cooking for larger groups, this space is just perfect for a big gathering or celebration.
If thorough relaxation is more your thing, book from a range of sensational treatments, including massages, reflexology and holistic facials. Now, doesn't that sound like pure heaven?
Whether it's the stunning woodland setting, the luxurious fixtures and fittings, or the beautiful Alachighs themselves, there's something truly magical about Penhein. All that's left is for you to discover it...

"Alachigh absolutely fantastic
and couldn't be any better. Being in the woods, away from roads, with fields
