North Wing
England / Mount's Bay, Cornwall
Full description
If you've ever imagined life in a 16th-century castle with sweeping sea views, experience it for yourself at North Wing.
This incredible apartment in the equally incredible Acton House offers an utterly unforgettable coastal retreat, with possibly one of the most iconic views in Britain - that of Mount's Bay in glorious Cornwall.
It's difficult not to fall in love with North Wing. As well as a wonderfully historic setting, this beautiful apartment comes with lashings of style, oodles of cosy touches, and more than a fair share of luxury. North Wing sleeps four in total between two bedrooms, making it ideal for a family or pair of couples holidaying together. However, it's intimate enough for two - and you can't get much more romantic than a castle overlooking the sea!
Built in 1776, Acton House boasts a fascinating past, with one former caretaker being none other than notorious smuggler John Carter, ‘The King of Prussia'. Legend has it, smugglers' tunnels lead from Acton House to the coast (though these are yet to be found!). And Poldark fans will certainly get a kick from imagining some of their favourite storylines playing out right here, or envisaging Aiden Turner galloping along the cliffs!
North Wing is one of seven apartments that now feature in Acton House, and with an enviable location on the first floor, it's certainly one of the best for stunning sea views. The accommodation centres around a large, open-plan living area, where relaxing greys, greens and moody blues create a stylish yet tranquil sense of luxury.
You'll discover a range of stunning traditional touches in the cosy lounge area, from the wooden floor to the exposed natural stone chimney breast. These are complemented beautifully by comfy sofas and armchairs, cowhide rugs, and a large 55-inch Internet TV with Freeview.
A set of large wooden bookshelves loaded with an eclectic library for your perusal create a semi-division between the lounge area and dining area, where you'll find a stunning wooden dining table and five high-backed, wicker chairs. The adjacent kitchen area features units in contemporary shades of black and sage, topped with stunning wooden worktops. It also brings every modern convenience into this historic home, including a Nespresso coffee machine, a dishwasher and a washer-dryer.
Sleep peacefully in the tranquil Master bedroom, where you can catch spectacular sunrises from the sumptuous super king. Next door is the cute and cosy twin bedroom with its 20-inch TV and notable seaside theme. Both bedrooms share the luxurious bathroom, complete with a shower, heated towel rail, and large, double-ended bath - perfect for a long soak after a day discovering the many walking trails and beaches nearby.
Guests also have access to the pretty communal garden at the front of Acton House - ideal for soaking up the sun or admiring the ornamental fishpond. From here, it's easy to explore this incredible part of Cornwall, thanks to immediate access to the South West Coast Path. A 20-minute walk in one direction takes you past famous Cudden Point and often-overlooked Piskies Cove towards Prussia Cove, while the same distance in the opposite direction takes you to Perranuthnoe.
Porthleven, Marazion, Penzance, Newlyn Harbour and Mousehole are also in easy reach, while the Lizard Peninsula, St Ives and Penwith are ideal for a daytrip from North Wing. And don't forget to head out to the iconic St Michael's Mount, either on foot across the causeway or aboard the St Michael amphicraft!
With so much to do, it's little wonder that Cornwall is one of this country's best-loved holiday spots. But when you want to make your visit even more special, North Wing has all you need for a luxurious south-west escape overlooking the sea.
Things to note
Travel cot and highchair are available, no pets are permitted, returnable £200 deposit scheme applies, check-in time from 3pm.
