Nettle and Dock
England / Spreyton, Devon
Full description
Sumptuous, lovingly-crafted retreats for couples and families, nestled amongst soul-soothing farmland on the edge of Dartmoor National Park.
Home to a beautiful barn and a delightful shepherd's hut, Nettle and Dock is a truly idyllic setting for those who want to kick back and immerse themselves in all the beauty of nature.
The friendly, family-run farm is nestled right in the heart of Devon, amongst 20 rural acres that sit on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, surrounded by rolling pastures, and ancient woodland that's teeming with wildlife.
(There's even a dedicated ‘sundowner hill'... perfect for watching the evening sky transform into a glorious shade of orange!)
Both the Acorn Barn and the Shepherd's Hut have been expertly hand-crafted with love, from rustic materials and traditional construction methods. The result is two seriously lovely spaces you won't want to leave.
Set in the farm's tranquil vegetable garden, the oak-framed barn is light, bright, and spacious, thanks to its vaulted ceiling and huge gable window.
There are kitchen facilities - though you might prefer sizzling summer suppers in your private al fresco space - and a family bathroom with an indulgent walk-in shower. When it's time to doze off under the stars, you'll discover a downy kingsize bed, and a separate children's room furnished with a bunk bed and a cot.
Meanwhile, the romantic Shepherd's Hut has all the style and luxury you might expect from a hotel suite - both inside and out. Positioned next to a glistening pond, you can doze off in the soft-swaying hammock, take a good book to read by the water, chat the night away by the firepit...
...or pop open a bottle of bubbles and light the wood-fired outdoor bath, for a heavenly treat!
Inside, you'll find everything you need for a perfectly relaxing stay, including a power-shower-and flushing-loo-equipped bathroom, a compact kitchen area, and a made-up double bed that cleverly pulls down, to provide even more space by day. There's a soft-glowing log-burner to help warm up cool evenings, too.
What to do by day? If you don't want to stray too far from your rural paradise, you'll have the run of the farm's 20 acres... ideal for kids both large and small to let off some steam! Or why not take a meandering woodland walk, and see if you can spot any grazing deer?
Further afield, the North and South coasts of Devon are both under an hour away, with RHS gardens, a National Trust castle, the bustling city of Exeter, and the gateway to Dartmoor National Park all within easy reach. You could even arrange a fun wine tasting tour at one of the local vineyards, if the mood should take you!
Finish those daytime exploits with a delicious Devon cream tea, then head back to the blissful sanctuary of Nettle and Dock, just in time for that sunset.
