Wonderfully retro self-catering holiday accommodation in the heart of Margate's thriving Old Town.

This ground floor apartment in Margate's quirky Old Town is a haven of 60s and 70s vintage cool; an appropriately themed base from which to explore the many delights of this classic British seaside town.

Running two fabulous vintage clothing stores in the town, owner David is no stranger to showcasing retro style and has handpicked furnishings, artwork and homewares to adorn Margate Retreat to great effect.

Upon entry, the apartment's bright splashes of orange - custom-mixed for the perfect 70s shade - create a bold and welcoming impression, giving the whole space a feeling of warmth and homeliness.  Sleeping four over two bedrooms, this is an ideal base for all; be it a small group, family or couple, guests will feel equally comfortable and at home here.

The street-facing main bedroom has a corniced period fireplace and matching vintage bedroom suite featuring a dressing table with large make-up mirror, drawers and wardrobe.  60s and 70s enthusiasts will love the bold orange bedspread and flower fabric cushions. Bedding, towels and extra pillows are provided for your comfort. The second bedroom next door has two single beds and features some interesting retro pieces as well as matching vintage furniture.

The bathroom is accessed via the central hallway, and includes a bath with shower over and some fun, quirky touches - a kitsch Hawaiian shower curtain and a rather novel NYC toilet seat cover!

Heading to the living and kitchen area at the rear of the apartment, guests can sink into the cosy red leather sofa or armchair whilst spinning a few sounds on the vintage record player - some albums are supplied but if you are a vinyl fan you might also want to pack some favourites in your record case. There is also a wall-mounted TV for watching the selection of retro DVDs.

The kitchen is well equipped should you wish to rustle up a meal or two, and has seating for four at the vintage dining table. However, the area has a range of incredible eateries just steps from the apartment in the atmospheric Old Town, so you may change your mind once you see their enticing menus!

Margate has seen a huge transformation and the appeal of the town as a short break destination just keeps growing and growing. Aside from the fine golden sands of the impressively large beach, the Turner Contemporary museum is both an architectural marvel and modern art mecca, whilst Dreamland's rides and arcades fit nicely with the vintage feel of the town.  The independent shops, cafes and restaurants of the Old Town are also yours to discover.  Guests at Margate Retreat also benefit from discounts at the owner's vintage shops Just Jane and H. B. Smiths, as well at other selected businesses - a fantastic incentive to stay and purchase some souvenirs.

How ever you decide to spend your time in Margate, returning to this chic apartment after a fun-packed day of exploring is a treat - whether it's kicking back and relaxing on the leather sofa, maybe watching a DVD or just soaking up the nostalgic vibes. No doubt you'll also be plotting your return visit before you leave!
