Full description
Forest paths lead you to an idyllic Danish treetop hotel where you'll discover sustainable, architect-designed cabins infused with hygge.
Set in forest land where deer roam free, and surrounded by earth-scented oak, spruce, and pine, Løvtag, in northern Denmark, will feel soothingly cut off from the rest of the world. There are winding, moss-covered paths to meander along, while the sparkling fjord nearby is perfect for a spot of fishing or kayaking - all blissfully far away from the beaten tourist tracks.
And then there's your heavenly cabin. There are three to choose from, all designed by the renowned architect Sigurd Larsen, to live in harmony with their surroundings. Named Et, Ro, and Ly (that's One, Calm, and Shelter in English), each one has been beautifully crafted from eco-friendly TermoWood by local carpenters.
Perched high amongst the leaves, and with a living tree cleverly growing through the centre of each cabin, you'll feel impossibly close to nature as you kick back and relax. Meanwhile, huge South and West-facing windows allow natural light to flood inside.
You'll find everything you need inside your refreshingly pared-down, Nordic-style space. There's a cosy queen-size bed to curl up in, along with a double sofa bed for any extra guests. The kitchen is equipped with a fridge, a stove and oven, as well as that all-important kettle, and you'll find plenty of tableware for everybody (translation: you can pack light!)
Of course, this is minimalist, hygge-infused luxury, which means no midnight dashes in the dark! Instead, you'll have your own loo, along with access to a gorgeous outdoor shower.
But the jewel in this particular crown probably has to be the spectacular roof terrace, which is the ideal spot to catch up over drinks as you watch the sun sink over the forest.
You'll find a light, locally sourced breakfast has been provided for you to enjoy in the morning, and then it's on to planning the rest of your day over a mug of fresh coffee.
If you're a water baby, you'll love whiling away some time along the nearby Mariager Fjord, the longest in Denmark. Rent a kayak or grab your fishing rod and catch some of the delicious trout the fjord is famous for.
If you prefer a long walk or cycle ride, there are plenty of scenic routes to try - or you could simply hop in the car and head for Lille Vildmose, a haven for varied wildlife and Denmark's largest protected area.
In the mood for a treat? You'll find a small winery nearby, and a selection of quaint restaurants within walking distance, just in case you'd like someone else to take care of the catering while you're away.
(Though if all you feel like doing is grabbing some supplies and holing yourselves up in your tranquil cabin all holiday long, you'll find plenty of shops close by).
Things to note
Check in from 3pm, check out by 11am. No smoking. Pets are permitted in the cabin Ly.
