Laurel Canyon Box House
USA / Los Angeles, California
Full description
A unique, glass-constructed architectural marvel, set high above the Los Angeles hills for stunning natural views.
If Laurel Canyon Box House looks familiar, it could be that you've seen it somewhere before. The last house to be snapped by the famed American architectural photographer Julius Shulman, a print of this incredible six-person home has been exhibited worldwide, and has featured in numerous architectural magazines.
You'll see why just as soon as you arrive. The house juts proudly over the imposing hills, high above Los Angeles with superlative views of Laurel Canyon all around. Constructed almost entirely of glass, you won't miss a moment of the invigorating scenery - inside or out.
Meanwhile, thoughtful design touches ensure you'll feel soothed and relaxed almost immediately. A meditative walk up the 52 entrance steps brings you to a gently bubbling fountain at the front entrance. What better way to arrive at your new holiday home?
Inside, you'll find plenty of welcoming, open-plan spaces flooded with natural light. The living area comprises a luxurious 2,214 square feet, with teak walls, bamboo flooring and cosy furnishings. On sunny afternoons, you can even fold away the windows and turn the entire living area into an open patio.
Meanwhile, the impressive kitchen and dining area features Gaggenau and Subzero appliances, including a central island, a five-burner gas range and a wine fridge - oh, and not forgetting that all-important coffee maker!
The second level is home to three generous bedrooms. The master suite is one to claim for yourself, with its wall-to-wall valley views and spa-esque ensuite that features a jetted infinity tub and opulent walk-in shower.
The two additional bedrooms are drenched in style, with queen beds and direct patio access for that morning coffee. These rooms are individually-themed, one in surf-style and the other as a music room, and both share a luxurious bathroom.
While away lazy evenings chatting over cocktails on the furnished patio, equipped with a ping-pong table and those outstanding views (which get even better by golden sunset). Later on, why not head inside to the plush sofa and armchairs, and enjoy a film on the 75" surround-sound TV?
You'll want to get out and explore LA, of course - and you're in the best place to do just that. Why not start with a celebrity-spotting trip at Erewhon Natural Foods, a local organic supermarket that's also ideal for stocking up?
Shop ‘til you drop at outdoor mall The Grove, or if you prefer taking in even more scenery, head up to Runyon Canyon Park - an unsurpassed picturesque hotspot (don't forget your camera!)
LA is well-known for its buzzing nightlife and café culture, so you'll find plenty to absorb yourselves in from all directions. Culture-vultures and art lovers won't be disappointed either, with must-visits including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the famed Getty Center.
In fact, you may just decide that the Laurel Canyon Box House is a work of art itself, as you prepare for another evening of sunset-watching from the comfort of your patio. Just try to tear yourselves away!
