Straying away from the beaten holiday track doesn’t get much more beautiful than a stay at Kelker Well Roundhouse.

Nestled within a tranquil field on a family-run Lakeland farm, you’ll be surrounded by magnificent views of the surrounding farmland and grazing animals, rolling mountains, and atmospheric Yorkshire fells.

You can feast your eyes on that glorious vista from the Roundhouse windows whilst cradling a warming drink, enjoying a sizzling sunset supper on the barbecue, or the luxurious comfort of your very own al-fresco wood-fired hot tub. What better way to relax and inspire your senses?

Soothingly off-grid, the Roundhouse has been sustainably crafted from local Welsh larch, for maximum sustainability. There’s a crackling wood-burning stove to keep you toasty, and you’ll have plenty of natural UV-filtered spring water.

You’ll also feel a welcoming sense of community as you step inside, since many of the fixtures and fittings were handmade, sourced from local suppliers and creatively upcycled. Oh – and you’ll also be greeted by some ridiculously tasty breakfast supplies, including freshly-laid eggs and cheese made on the farm.

Meanwhile, if you thought off-grid living meant compromising on facilities, think again! The generous bathroom extension is home to a shower and a modern compost loo, with plenty of fluffy towels and toiletries on hand.

The wood-burning stove also features a built-in oven, and a stainless steel top that makes easy work of kettle-boiling. You’ll even find handy gas stoves (for cooking up meals inside or alfresco) and cool-boxes to keep your food nice and fresh.

With open access land across five fells, there are numerous winding footpaths that lead in all directions… simply pack a picnic and choose your favourite. Hutton Roof Crags is directly accessible through a stile next to the site, leading up to the 13-mile Limestone Link footpath which links Kirkby Lonsdale to Arnside. There is a badger sett just around the corner, and look out for the roe deer who can often be seen at dusk and dawn.

There are plenty of towns and villages to visit in the local area too, including Kirkby Lonsdale, home to excellent cafes, pubs, independent shops and a wonderful river walk.

The friendly owners have also left plenty of thoughtful accessories to help you find the perfect holiday pastime, whether that’s browsing the local maps and guidebooks, using the binoculars to keep an eye on the passing wildlife, curling up with a book, or challenging your loved one to a game.

Whichever option you choose, it’s bound to be refreshingly memorable.
