Il Baciarino
Italy / Vetulonia, Tuscany
Full description
A cluster of traditional stone cottages with stunning views, set within the olive groves of Tuscany's breathtaking Maremma region.
A stay at Il Baciarino isn't just a relaxing break, but a beautifully unique and warmly welcoming immersion into the unspoilt natural beauty of Tuscany.
Comprising five stone cottages set within an eight-hectare olive and oak grove in the wild and natureful Maremma region, outstanding views are assured. Endless rolling Mediterranean hills greet your arrival, with the Tyrrhenian Sea sparkling on the horizon.
Blissfully off the beaten tourist track, you'll feel at one with nature and ready to relax just as soon as you arrive...bellissima! Yet with the ancient village of Vetulonia nearby and ready to explore, and with Pisa, Rome and Florence all accessible within two hours, Il Baciarino is also the ideal base from which to explore the very best of Italy.
Your friendly hosts, Andrea and Clelia, are locals with a genuine passion for food, wine and hospitality...and it shows. Each cottage is a true home-from-home, lovingly restored with natural stone, chestnut wood and terracotta tiles that perfectly complement the stunning surroundings.
Whichever you choose, you'll have plenty of space and privacy to enjoy, along with a cosy double en-suite bedroom and a wood-covered outdoor kitchen (trust us, you'll be converted to cooking outside in no time at all!) There's also an al fresco dining table and chairs, primed for you to feast your eyes as well as your stomachs...oh, and a comfy hammock to while away long, lazy afternoons in - perhaps with a glass of local wine?
If you're feeling sociable, chat to new friends on the communal terrace or spacious sitting room, or take a short stroll to the local coffee bar and drink espresso like a native!
There's also a small shop nearby to stock up on dinnertime delicacies, though if you'd rather let someone else do the cooking for a change, let Andrea whip up a special seafood feast, complete with delicious wine, all served by sunset for just a small extra charge. If you're feeling inspired, why not learn how to make some of the region's finest dishes with Andrea's cookery classes...what better excuse to invite some friends over for a lively evening once you're back home?
Of course, there are plenty of restaurants in the local area if you'd rather head out, perhaps after a hectic day spent at the beach? The sandy beaches and quaint fishing villages of Castiglione della Pescaia are just 20km away, while if you'd rather sightsee, the medieval village of Pitigliano makes for a culturally captivating day out.
Further afield, Siena is a must-visit, 65km from the site and boasting the ornate Piazza del Campo, as well as a breathtaking Gothic cathedral and a host of art galleries. And of course, Florence, Pisa and Rome are all easily accessible, for those hankering after a taste of big city life on a uniquely artful and historic scale.
All that's left to do is return to the simple sanctuary of your stone cottage, pour another glass of wine, then sit back and marvel at the beauty of the stars in the clear night sky. Time to relax...the Tuscan way.
