Looking for all the world like a huge, sociable living room, Hotel Not Hotel enjoys a relaxed ‘hostel’ vibe, and unique artistic elements that are sure to delight lovers of all things quirky.

Located just 250 yards from Kinkerstraat, buzzing with shops, bars and restaurants in the heart of Amsterdam, the rooms at Hotel Not Hotel have been creatively designed by local artists, including Collaboration O, and Arno Coenen en IRIS.

Each room boasts its very own style and theme – and are so joyfully diverse that you may find you’ll have to stay more than once to experience them all!

Most of the rooms sleep two guests in a double bed (though one, The Blue House Downstairs, features a double bed and two singles) and come with either private or shared facilities, so you can choose your level of social interaction.

If you don’t mind being in the hub of activity, you can bed down in the Tram – a restored vintage carriage parked right in the hotel lobby. Window-free, with thick curtains that separate you from the lobby, there’s a kingsize bed and soft, old-school light bulbs to help you relax.

Crisis Free Zone, meanwhile, is a soothing sanctuary that transports you away from negative news reports, with intricate Transylvanian-style wood carvings to keep out those blood-sucking economic vampires!

Mr. and Mrs. De With are two impossibly cute suburban-style rooms, named after the elderly couple who used to live on the hotel’s grounds, while Poison Ivy is a foliage-covered haven that promises to infuse its guests with botanical superpowers.

More information

Oh, and if you’re looking for an extra sense of privacy, how about a stay in the ‘Secret Bookcase’ rooms, hidden behind what looks like an innocent collection of antique tomes in the lobby?

Some of the mirrors and paintings even double as one-way windows, so you can see when it’s safe to emerge for a tasty breakfast, served on the comfy Chesterfield sofas outside.

We’ve merely scratched the surface of the imaginative rooms available here, but whichever you choose, you’ll be able to come together with other guests and new friends at the lively Kevin Bacon bar – named after the actor who can “play any role!”

Here you can enjoy delicious breakfasts (with or without bacon), and mouth-watering Thai lunches and dinners, not to mention a plethora of classic and innovative cocktails… how about a Tom Kha Kevin, with ginger-infused gin, coriander syrup, coconut milk, and chilli flakes?

If you’d rather eat out and explore, the local Foodhallen are a short stroll away, and there’s plenty of scope to shop ‘til you drop… if you feel the need to leave at all, that is!
