A lovingly hand-crafted, off-grid tree cabin with a wood-fired hot tub and a suspended stargazing net, peacefully secluded in the picturesque Cambrian Mountains of mid-Wales.
  • Sleeps: 2
  • Bedroom: 1
  • Bathroom: 1
  • Minimum stay: 3 nights

Vast and mesmerising, the Hafod Estate thrives with nature’s abundant beauty, from gushing waterfalls, shimmering streams and meandering forest footpaths, to swooping red kites, otters, and playful hares.

Set in the Ystwyth Valley, deep within the Cambrian Mountains and nestled under a dark, starry sky, it’s hard to imagine a more beautiful setting to unwind.

And it’s right here, amongst an enchanting grassy glen, that you’ll discover Woodcock Cabin, a hand-crafted and sustainable off-grid retreat for a romantic couple in need of the ultimate escape into nature.

Styled and furnished with careful attention to detail, there’s a wonderful blend of antique and vintage pieces throughout the cabin, with local crafts and ethically sourced luxuries to make you feel cosy and cossetted (for an extra treat, you can order from a selection of delicious hampers.)

Wrap yourselves in Welsh woollen blankets and snuggle in front of the crackling log burner after an invigorating forest walk, or cradle a steaming mug of something lovely out on the veranda – where you’ll find a gorgeous handcrafted swing-chair – and savour views of the cascading stream.

Later on, why not fire up the hot tub, and await the arrival of the twinkling stars in that incredible evening sky? Wales is home to the most Dark Sky reserves in the world, and the soothing remoteness of the Hafod Estate means you can enjoy one of the darkest, clearest canvases in the UK.

When you’re finally ready to turn in, you’ll find a comfy hayloft bed waiting for you back inside the cabin, accessed by a sturdy wooden ladder.

More information

After a sound, silent night’s sleep, freshen up in the delightful heated outdoor shower (there’s also a composting toilet in its own little cabin – which boasts magnificent views, too!) and prepare a hearty breakfast using the handy kitchenette inside the cabin, or out by the streamside firepit.

If you prefer working up an appetite, there are some charming eateries nearby, including Y Ffarmers, around 25 minutes from the cabin in the village of Llanfinhangel-y-Creuddyn, or Cwtch, a friendly local café that offers a delicious cooked breakfast.

Activities-wise, there’s no better way to start than by taking one of the amazing walking routes that begin right from your doorstep, or perhaps paying a visit to the many natural wonders of the local area, such as Devil’s Bridge Falls.

For something a little different, you could take part in a Red Kite feeding experience, or even try your hand at a pottery class – the beautiful crockery you’ll find in the cabin was created by local tutors David and Anouska themselves.

But if all that sounds a little too energetic, you’ll find a ready supply of books and art materials, and even a guitar, in the cabin, ready for you to rediscover that long-lost creative spirit.

What the guests of Hafod Hideaways say

“Five days of total bliss! Thank you. Woodcock Cabin is a special place offering precious sanctuary, a space for rest, reflection, practice, a blessed reminder of the simple beauty of life and nature. All held with the obvious great care of Lee & Pip. It is rare to find somewhere so genuinely peaceful, wild and luxurious all at the same time. We loved every minute of our days here spent reading, walking, hot-tubbing, star- gazing and conjuring feasts up by the fire. Hours spent in silence just listening to the voice of the stream, truly magical. Thank you! We can’t wait to return!”

“Thank you for the opportunity to have such a unique, relaxing and magical stay. It has been wonderful to be completely offgrid, to switch off and just enjoy the peaceful and tranquil countryside around the cabin. What a beautiful cabin, it feels like its been plucked out of a fairy tale. We’ve appreciated all of the little touches made which have made our stay so homely and inviting. We’ve certainly got used to a life spent playing board games by a log fire, drinking wine by candlelight, long soaks in the hot tub, and the stargazing from the net was phenomenal – we’re not quite ready to go back to London life after this! We will be recommending your woodland haven to everyone we know. Thank you again for the wonderful memories.”

“What an absolute delight! What a fantastic hideaway you’ve created in beautiful Wales. We have absolutely loved our weekend here, the cabin, the walks & the beautiful setting. We love walking & exploring and walked all the routes around the estate which are each amazing, then returning to the cabin each afternoon to totally relax in what seems like heaven. We lead very busy lives back home, so staying here completely off-grid with all the thoughtful touches in place has exceeded all our expectations. Thank you for making our weekend away unforgettable.”
