The Saggers family have lived and worked in Bassingbourn, Cambridgeshire ever since the 1600s - so it's fair to say they know something about what makes for a sustainable lifestyle!
Today, Guilden Gate represents the vision of the most recent generation of the family, Simon and Jacqueline Saggers, to create a sustainable smallholding from a blissful five and a half acres of fresh farmland.
Step into Guilden Gate and discover a soothing world of wild flower meadows, coppice woodlands, fruit orchards and vegetable fields that will carry you far away from the cares and pressures of modern life.
Guilden Gate works as an efficient eco-system, leaving you feeling free as a bird throughout your stay. Fresh water comes from a borehole and rainwater harvesting, with energy from the sun and wind. A lush woodland provides wood for heating and recycling is encouraged wherever possible.
All that's left for you to do is choose your favourite glamping site from two heavenly havens, Coppice Woodland and The Secret Garden. The sites each accommodate a couple or a small family, or for slightly larger groups they can be booked together for a real feeling of natural, open space and invigorating reconnection, both with nature and yourselves.
Discover Coppice Woodland, with its welcoming collection of entwined ‘rooms' that include a living area featuring a Lebanese cedar dining table and open glade (with a cedar single canopy for rainy days)... perfect for enjoying al fresco feasts and conversation surrounded by birdsong and greenery.
The kitchen includes a sizzling fire pit and butler sink, and you'll rest those weary heads in style, in a renovated 1973 VW camper van equipped with a cosy full-sized and a small double bed. A roomy bell tent with futon doubles up as extra living or sleeping space for two, and your stylish bathroom equals outdoor living at its most naturally luxurious! Featuring a twin vault dry compost toilet and a solar shower, you'll also discover a wood-fired hot tub to enjoy plenty of stargazing and sunsets.
On-site you'll find plenty of space for open-air meditation, along with a charming two-hole ‘golf course' and football goals.
Perfect for a naturally-inspired romantic break worthy of a classic novel, The Secret Garden features a stunning, sheltered ‘Hobbit Hole' equipped with a king-sized bed and twinkling solar fairy lights.
Prepare fresh feasts in a cedar shingle-covered camp kitchen and dining area with single slab table. A warming fire pit and a fragrant herb garden nearby will provide a relaxing and sweet-scented backdrop.
Continue the relaxation in your very own woodland spa, consisting of a wood-fired hot tub and solar shower, with private compost toilet - and with a swing pod and hammock hang perfectly placed amongst the wildflower meadow and refreshing fruit orchard, you may find you'll never want to leave!
Further afield, Bassingbourn is a mere stone's throw from the city of Cambridge, the ideal setting for fun-filled days out with plenty to do and see all around.
So for a truly sustainable holiday to remember, why not open Guilden Gate and enter an invigorating world of natural luxury you'll soon want to relive all over again?
Things to note

Tried and tested
The stay was fantastic. It was for my wife's birthday, and she describes it as her best birthday. The hosts, Simon and Jaq were fantastic, being always available if needed but never intrusive. Everything was perfect, from the hot tub to sleeping in the camper van. Our daughters loved the wide open space to run around in and hunt for bugs in the wood. Simply magnificent.
