Nestled in the heart of 1066 country, an area of outstanding natural beauty, Freshwinds Camping is a truly idyllic location for relaxing, exploring and getting back to nature. This small, family-run campsite is situated on a working farm, and is perfect for families and couples alike.
Freshwinds accommodates all kinds of campers, from traditionalists to glampers, who have a tough choice between the two yurts on offer, the Shepherd's Hut and the Tiny House. Wherever you stay though, don't miss the unique experience of the Hazel Grove Yurt, where a therapist will help you unwind with treatments ranging from Shiatsu to meditation. We did say Freshwinds was relaxing!
The camping field has 15 spacious pitches, as well as a tipi for hire, and unlike many sites, you can actually enjoy a real campfire. A camp kitchen, two showers and two compost toilets provide essential facilities, while flush toilets and extra showers are five minutes away at the farm.
Now for the glampers! For a little more luxury under canvas, the two yurts have wood burners for chillier nights, a camping stove for your morning cup of tea, and all the bedding, cutlery, crockery and utensils you need. Owl Yurt sleeps four, but for a little more space, opt for Woodland Yurt - big enough for six!
If canvas isn't quite your thing, the cute and cosy Shepherds Hut blends rustic charm with comfort, and is perfect for a romantic retreat. Sleeping two and furnished with a double bed, gas stove, and wood burner, tea light lanterns provide the perfect mood lighting, and your very own fire pit is ideal for toasting marshmallows while doing a little stargazing.
Finally, for the definitive eco-experience, there's the Tiny House. Measuring 2.4m by 4.5m, it really is a tiny house, but has everything you need for a comfortable stay, including a shower and a dry toilet, as well as electric lights, sockets and a TV, all powered by rooftop solar panels! A peaceful night's sleep awaits you on the mezzanine's double mattress, while a futon sleeps two more below.
You'll arrive to the warmest of welcomes from Tim and Anne, who are keen to ensure that your stay is comfortable, memorable and hassle-free. Welcome Packs are available to order, containing locally sourced essentials, and you can even order a Celebration Pack to treat that special someone with Champagne and chocolates as you snuggle under the stars. Delicious farmhouse one-pot meals are also available; heat them up over the campfire for a hearty al fresco supper. That said, there's no shortage of good hostelries nearby if you'd rather eat out in the local area, with a total of five pub-restaurants in the nearby villages of Pett, Pett Level and Icklesham.
Thanks to Freshwinds' brilliant location, you won't be short of things to do. Walkers can explore a range of footpaths through rolling countryside, and there are three beaches in driving distance - at Pett Level, Camber Sands and Hastings - perfect for paddling in the summer or for blustery walks in the winter! Only 20 minutes away, historical Rye offers twisting streets and buildings dating back to 1249, while nearby Hastings is not short of a spooky story or two about the smugglers of St Clement's Caves! And a visit to Battle is a must when in 1066 country; take a tour around the battlefields before relaxing in this picture-perfect town.
If you've done all that, there are no fewer than five historic homes and gardens nearby, and plenty for the kids, including the Blue Reef Aquarium, Drusillas Zoo Park, and the Tenterden Steam Railway. And it doesn't matter if you don't fit it all in, because after one stay at Freshwinds, you'll look for any excuse to come back.
