Frances' Sketch Pad
Scotland / Nr Fort William, The Highlands
Full description
An ultra-romantic ‘zen den' retreat, complete with an al fresco hot tub, magically secluded on a historic West Highlands estate with artist-worthy views of Ben Nevis.
Boasting a magnificent location in the heart of the West Highlands, Inverskilavulin Estate is home to a luxurious selection of lodges, for discerning travellers who want to experience Scotland at its naturally beautiful best.
Secluded in a magical glen that thrives with nature, there's a blissfully remote feel to the historic estate. Yet with Fort William just a few miles away, and a bracing range of outdoor activities right on the doorstep, there's plenty to help you while away that precious holiday time... if you can bear to leave your lodge, that is!
Superbly nestled at the top of a hill, the estate's newest addition, Frances' Sketch Pad, has been lovingly designed to meld with the awe-inspiring natural landscape.
Here you can savour south-facing views that lead your gaze over wild plants, whispering trees and a shimmering lochan, out towards the Ben Nevis mountain range.
Not only is the scenery perfect for two romantic souls grown weary of bustling city life, it's also ideal for inspiring creative spirits. The owner's mother, Frances, loved to paint the view from this very spot, so in her honour, you'll find a fresh sketch pad, along with some paint and colouring pencils, to capture it for yourself.
Better still, you can choose your favourite view-capturing position whatever the weather, since the entire front of the lodge opens out onto a magnificent viewing terrace. Or for an extra treat at sunset, simply pop open a bottle of bubbles and fire up the soothing hot tub, for full sensory perfection.
Inside awaits a symphony of modern and minimalist comforts that include a relaxed open plan living space with a soft-glowing log burner and a Smart TV for snuggly evenings in, and a well-equipped kitchen that makes preparing romantic meals a breeze (there's even a pod coffee machine, to help charge your mornings).
At the end of a long, hard day of exploring or doing absolutely nothing, you can curl up in a downy kingsize bed, topped with a high quality mattress and dressed in fresh linen, for the soundest night's sleep.
And when morning finally rolls around, there's a walk-in shower waiting to help you freshen up, complete with luxury toiletries and a stack of fluffy towels.
If you'd like to add even more indulgence to your stay, how about arranging a delicious two-or-three course meal to be prepared for you, or arriving to a chilled bottle of bubbly and tempting cake?
The friendly owners are also happy to put together a bespoke itinerary just for you, created from the many delights you'll discover in the area, including natureful walks and cycling routes, independent shops, history tours, ferry trips, and activities that span golf and horse riding to skiing and climbing.
If you're going it alone, the ‘Outdoor Capital of Europe' - otherwise known as Fort William - is just nine miles away, boasting restaurants and shops galore.
(Of course, if all this sounds a little too energetic, you've always got the option of simply pouring a drink and admiring those jaw-dropping views from your terrace, instead!)
Things to note
There is a selection of pet-friendly accommodation on the estate to choose from, each sleeping 4-6 guests.
