Fletland Mill
England / Stamford, Lincolnshire
Full description
A historic, lovingly converted riverside retreat on the edge of the Fens, filled with welcoming warmth and surrounded by wildlife-steeped countryside.
Dating back to the 1750s, Fletland Mill occupies a dream setting for a peaceful break in the countryside; nestled near the sleepy village of Baston, on the edge of the Lincolnshire Fens.
Carefully converted to provide spacious and luxurious accommodation for up to eight guests, the former grain mill boasts glorious views of the River Glen, with the sound of its gently running water guaranteed to soothe you to sleep.
Oh, and a warm welcome is all but guaranteed from friendly owners Melanie and Phil... not to mention their resident animals.
(You can bring your two well-behaved dogs along too, so no-one has to miss out on all the comfort and relaxation - and the epic walks! - available at the Mill).
There are four comfortable, elegantly decorated bedrooms to choose from, three of which feature a TV. Though with captivating views available from every window, you're unlikely to feel like switching it on!
The spacious master room boasts en-suite facilities - hint: this could be the one to claim for yourself - and there are a further two doubles, along with a charming twin.
The indulgent family bathroom, complete with roll-top bath, is perfect for relaxing in, or freshening up in after a nature ramble with the dogs, and there's a further cloakroom to help prevent awkward morning queues.
Where to catch up and socialise? Well, with two vast, sumptuously furnished living rooms on hand (one occupies the entire second floor!) the choice is yours. There's even a dedicated reading area, for those who love getting lost between the pages of a good book.
Meanwhile, you'll find the large and lovely kitchen fabulously well-equipped for feasts of every description, though there's a barbecue outside for sizzling sunset suppers, and plenty of furnished space for you to sit back and enjoy those al fresco views.
You'll soon discover plenty of wildlife to spot (Phil reports that there are more rabbits than he can count!) from deer and badgers, to mink and otters by the river, and red kites swooping overhead as you cradle an afternoon tipple.
The resident chickens are responsible for the eggs you'll find on your arrival, and if you're lucky, you may get to meet the dogs, cat, and horses that also proudly call Fletland their home.
What to do next? With Stamford, the home of Burghley Hall, just a few miles away, along with landmarks that include Peterborough Cathedral, the Nene Valley Railway, and Rutland Water, you're unlikely to get bored.
Yet it could be that once you've experienced the warm welcome, tranquil comfort, and magnificent surroundings offered by Fletland Mill, you'll be more than happy to stay put!
Things to note
Minimum 3-night stay. On-site catch and return fishing is available in the Mill Pond and river frontage.
