A luxurious country mansion ideal for large group celebrations, perfectly positioned to explore the delights of Edinburgh.

As you drive through the gates of the grandly imposing Drylaw House, you'll feel as though you're about to film an episode of Downton Abbey...with you and your favourite people in the starring roles!

Sleeping up to 21 people in nine sumptuous bedrooms, this immaculate Grade I listed building was originally built in 1718, with intricate architecture and soft-toned, elegant décor throughout.

A finer setting for a milestone birthday, a family reunion or a once-in-a-lifetime celebration is hard to imagine, and with central Edinburgh only a few miles away, you can easily combine all the pleasures of a city and country break.

The entrance hall gives a stunning taste of the magnificence to come, complete with a sweeping staircase and cupula. The opulent drawing room, featuring soothing garden views on both sides, is the perfect backdrop to catch-up conversations over morning tea or afternoon cocktails.

Two impressive kitchens mean you'll never have to worry about finding the space for group catering - though we suggest you hire the recommended private gourmet chef at least once during your stay, and give yourselves a well-deserved break.

Meanwhile, the stylish dining room is equipped with an ornamental fireplace and double doors that lead you out to the rear lawn.  With plenty of seating and a barbecue, you may prefer to dine al fresco on balmy summer evenings, watching the sunset over steaming cups of after-dinner coffee.

Oh, and if you're feeling energetic enough, you can even try your hand at croquet on the lawn. If not, there's always the six-person hot tub instead!

Whether you like to socialise or you prefer some alone time, there is plenty of space at Drylaw House for everybody to do exactly as they like. There are two television rooms, iPod docks, a pool table, and a selection of games and books to browse through - and of course, the house is WiFi-connected.

Now it's time to choose your favourite bedroom. All individually styled and offering a range of double and twin options, you'll find three generous rooms on the lower ground floor, together with a large shower room.

The master bedroom is found on the first floor, with a four-poster bed and en-suite shower room. Two more bedrooms and a bathroom also await on this floor, while on the second floor you'll discover three more indulgent bedrooms.

With the scene so beautifully set, all you need to do now is sit back, relax in front of a crackling log fire and enjoy the company of your loved ones.

(Though with the centre of Edinburgh just 10 minutes away by car or taxi, you may decide that shopping, sightseeing and living it up is an even greater draw!)

Things to note

Cot & highchair are available on request. Stag and hen parties are considered on prior request basis only.

Tried and tested

"Myself and my bridesmaids booked this amazing place for my hen weekend. We had the most fantastic time! The house is out of this world, it has everything you could possibly need & more. It is so clean and the hot tub was amazing. Everyone was so lovely & made us feel very welcome. Would book this again for another special event."

"Incredible old house, new furnished and well modernized. Nicki and John are just perfect hosts. Highly recommended stay."

"I booked Drylaw house for my friends hen weekend at the end of March. We were the first people in the house and it was absolutely fantastic. We had the best weekend. The house caters for 21 people on 4 floors. There is a hot tub in the basement which is brand new with decking area. They provided flip flops and robes which was a lovely touch. The rooms were all gorgeous and you could tell a lot of work had been done to the house. The kitchen has a lovely aga and the house was so cosy. The kitchen also had everything you could possibly need and 3 good sized fridges for the prosecco to chill! The garden area is also lovely and big. We had a cocktail lady come in (vintage cocktail company) on Saturday afternoon which was amazing and a private chef catered for us in the dining room which worked perfectly (Alistair Reid of Tartan Stag Catering). Couldn't recommend both enough - they did a fab job. My hen was very happy and everyone couldn't stop saying how lovely the house was. Thank you for such an amazing weekend."
