Clifftop
England / Portreath, Cornwall
Full description
A luxurious, architect-designed beachfront retreat for family breaks in the heart of ‘Poldark country', secluded in the Cornish village of Portreath with the golden sand mere footsteps away!
It's hard to imagine a North Cornish retreat that's closer to the beach than Clifftop Cottage, which takes the humble family holiday-by-the-sea to a whole new level!
Dripping with contemporary style, you'll have plenty of sleek mod-cons at your disposal, yet there's all the cosy charm you'd expect from a Cornish cottage. And with the sandy beach at Portreath - not to mention the South West Coast Path - practically on the doorstep, finding wonderful ways to spend your time will be easy.
Of course, there's plenty of in-house entertainment, too. Spend cosy evenings snuggled up in front of the TV (complete with Sky Sports package), watch a film on the DVD player, or head for the dedicated first-floor games room, and challenge your loved ones to an energetic session on the Xbox 360!
Meanwhile, the well-equipped kitchen is a spacious and sociable hub, with plenty of room for everyone to catch up over a welcome cuppa.
Bursting with gleaming, high-quality NEFF appliances, there's a Dolce Gusto pod coffee machine to help charge your mornings, an on-demand ice machine to pep up your afternoon G&T, and French doors that lead to the stunning wrap-around balcony, on which you can enjoy whichever drink you choose.
Sit back and observe the comings and goings of cheerful coastal life with ease, whether that's watching seals bask in the water, or the surf-school students braving the waves... perhaps borrowing a wetsuit and plucking up the courage to join them!
(If you're lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of the wild ponies on the hill just above the cottage - have your camera ready, just in case).
Perfect for families with children, there are two elegant kingsize bedrooms to choose from, plus a cosy family room, equipped with a double bed and a ridiculously comfy 4ft sofa bed. A travel cot and a highchair are also provided, so you can pack as light as you need.
After that sound night's sleep, it's time to get on with the important business of planning your day! There's so much to see and do, that you may want to whip up a hearty breakfast and review your options together.
If you don't want to stray too far, simply take a few steps across to the family-friendly Portreath Beach, or head into the charming village for coffee and cake.
Those in the mood for more energetic pursuits can take the South West Coast Path, indulge in watersports galore, or jump in the car to visit the atmospheric coast at St. Agnes Head, where part of the BBC adaptation of Poldark was filmed.
Just 15 minutes away, on a clear day you can enjoy clifftop views that extend beyond St. Ives Bay, all the way up to Trevose in the north-east.
And of course, your own clifftop retreat will be waiting for your return, ready to greet you with melting sunset views that will burn in your memories for some time to come.
Things to note
Two small, well-behaved dogs are permitted to stay, for a small additional charge.
